CONTENT AND LAYOUT OF YOUR PROJECT
Section What’s included?
Not definitive, but a guide Suggested word length
Introduction Tell the reader how the essay will be structured
State your research question.
Discussion of why the issue researched is important (rationale with evidence) 300 -400words
Literature review Your literature search. Please look at students’ previous work (if available from course lead) to show you how to do this. This is your methodological approach-formulation of research question (using PICO, PEO etc); which databases you looked at,how you structured your search for evidence (search terms, Boolean operators, limiters etc). Introduce your final articles used for appraisal
(the same ones as used in your presentation). Due to word length students may want to restrict this to three articles
State which appraisal tool you used
You need to appraise these articles using an appropriate appraisal tool (i.e. CASP).
The following is an extract from part of a previous paper submitted essay, where the student was critiquing the research and in this part was discussing recruitment of the samples in two studies that the student was using for their review. The student then backed up their discussion, with reference to research knowledge, around the importance of representation of participants within a sample from a research book to back up her discussion.
Muir et al (2010) highlight their rather complex recruitment process and enrolled war veterans for their study, 70% were male which could make this study more difficult to apply in practice as the majority of patients seen in personal practice tend to be female. Poonam et al (2012) clearly state their recruitment process and state there were no identifiable differences, however in their table highlighting demographic characteristics; it indicates there was a higher population of females at 68%. Furthermore, in both discussions it is indicated the participants volunteered to take part in the studies which could also create a degree of bias as it could be argued those people are more motivated with regards to exercise which could have flawed the results. Nichols (2015) indicates that the participant sample in research may not be representative of the true population which in turn may lead to inaccurate results.
Summary of lit review
What is the overall conclusion? This is the answer to your research question based on your findings within the articles
Example
Whilst Jones (2006) found no difference in bacterial count between alcohol rub and soap and water, Smith however (2009) found a significant fall in bacterial count of alcohol disinfected hands in a very large sample, inferring benefit in using alcohol hand rub to reduce healthcare acquired infection.
What is the answer to student’s research question. Students can develop this with reference to any current policy in relation to their chosen the area of interest in their research question and the current thinking in policy context relevant to their area of practice.
1600-1700 words
CHANGE MANAGEMENT MODEL(using the model to structure the remaining part of the project)
Plan
This is a theoretical change prosed for your practice project
• In this section you will consider how you might actually plan your strategy. What is your proposed change? Introduce your change management model
• Consider both barriers and opportunities that you might encounter and ways of dealing with these (SWOT analysis)
• Consider issues surrounding collaborative working and problem solving.
• Who (role) would you contact to access a change in a service? How would you plan this? What would the change involve ? (how you would sell this). What exactly would you change be?

Implementation • This is where you will be specific about how you will implement the plan. You will provide an overview of how the plan could be implemented. 600
Evaluation • Include an evaluation strategy for when your plan has been implemented 400
Conclusion • Final conclusion and recommendations for practice
Module themes: Project management; problem solving; collaboration and teamwork 400
In addition to the above, you may wish to incorporate appendices which provide additional information but are not included in your word count. These should follow on from your reference list and bibliography and will need to include: An Action Plan or Timeline and any other relevant information including diagrams.
