One of the most unfair problems Gilmore brings out from pages 1-29 is the unfair treatment people of color experience in the criminal justice system. According to her systemic racism and prejudice are to blame for this imbalance because they are ubiquitous and deeply ingrained. Her observation that the proportion of Latinos and people of color incarcerated in California’s jails is much higher than their representation in the genera community lends credence to this claim. The severity of the structural inequities that exist within the prison system is revealed by this extremely sad truth.the process of criminal justice-related treatment. In California, where the prison system has grown into a sizable enterprise that makes money by imprisoning individuals, the situation is especially appalling People of color are frequently singled out and given harsher punishments in this system for the same offences as their white counterparts. Another thing that was very upsetting was the fact there is a larger percent of minorities inside of the prisons then the percent outside of prisons . The way this system unfairly targets and penalizes people of color is among its most troubling features.African Americans andLatinos are imprisoned at considerably higher rates than white people for the identical crimes, which serves as evidence of this.
According to Gilmore she says that this situation clearly shows how the criminal justice system is affected by racism and prejudice, and it’s not fair.. Overall as i said many times before this prison system is so unfair and its heart aching and it needs to be changed, its not some sort of business that these higher ups should be doing. These are people lives.
