The Illusion of Mass Culture: Unveiling the Hidden Dimensions

Rowland Lorimer and Jean McNulty claim that “the word mass encourages us to think of the audience as a vast undifferentiated agglomeration of individuals lacking social bonds and alienated from society by unskilled meaningless work, subject to the vagaries of markets” (1992, 36).
