Identify a social issue
1. Provide, define, explain, and discuss a selected social issue or concern
This issue or concern can be one which impacts you personally and/or can impact society in general.
Be sure to include numerical/statistical data related to the issue, such as the number of societies dealing with the issue, the number of people dealing with the issue, data on how long the issue has been problematic, etc.
2. Investigate and explain types of solutions for the chosen issue.
Be sure to include numerical/statistical data related to solutions as well.
3. Provide a conclusion/summary on the impact of the chosen issue for
both individuals and society based on the info you presented in
Sections 1 and 2 of the paper.

The focus of Unit 6 is the environment and how it has been impacted by technology. The effects on the environment of any technology may be positive or negative. In your initial post, you are asked to consider one positive and one negative impact of technology as it relates to renewable energy sources. To complete this post, include the following:

Describe a specific technology related to energy sources and the environment that has positively impacted the environment.
What is the specific technology (for example, solar panels and not energy production)?
How, specifically, has it had a positive impact on the environment?
Discuss any negatives associated with this technology.
Describe a specific technology related to energy sources and the environment that has harmed the environment.
What is the specific technology (for example, the extraction of shale and not energy production)?
How, specifically, has it harmed the environment?
Discuss any positives associated with this technology.
Conclude with your opinion on how any technology can be improved to benefit the environment and, thus, society.
Please be sure to support your opinions and ideas with specific examples.

Consider one of the following current social issues – or one of your choice:

Opioid crisis
Legalization of recreational or medical marijuana
Vaping
Immigration
Elimination of the electoral college
Gun control
For the initial post, address the following:

State your position on one of these issues – are you for, against, or neutral? Explain why. Avoid vagueness or ambiguity in your response. Make your position very clear.
Examine how you have formed that opinion.
How well do you think you know the facts?
Do you know and understand statistical information that applies to the issue?
Do you think you have formed your opinion using only System-1 thinking, or have you applied System-2?
What part have heuristics, cognitive bias, and dominance structuring played in how you have formed your opinions?
The initial post is not about how “correct” your position is; it is about how you arrivedat your position on the issue. This discussion requires application of metacognition – thinking about how you think.
