Directions: This assessment is a Review of a research study with application to your healthcare/ nursing practice setting relating to your Quality Improvement (QI) project. The assessment must be in current APA formatting with a cover page, academic honesty statement, final reference page, and supporting evidence in the form of in-text citations. Select a current practice issue in which you will be completing a QI project within your practice setting. Pre-assessment: Several pre-assessment questions are provided below to guide your preparation for the assessment. All assessments must be done in Microsoft Office- Word (not pdf, pages, etc. files). Label the assessment as follows- Lastname Assessment # course set SimonsonAssessment1June2022 Introduction-Provide background on current topic or issue within your practice setting that will be addressed as QI project throughout this course. Describe the current policy or guidelines at your site and practice that is currently being done related to this topic within your setting. Within the introduction provide a statement that addresses the problem. It can be a PICO/PICOT or the plan in which you are going to implement. What do you want to accomplish? Review of Literature- Provide background description about this problem as described within the professional literature on the topic. You may use literature sources you may have used in 446x, 447x, and previous courses if they relate to this topic and are within 5-10 years old. (All of the literature used within this assessment can be used in the remaining assessments within the course). Review of Research Article- Select 1 research article that was published within the last five years to dive deeper into and review. (This research article should be used in assessment 4 in the course). Use the John Hopkins Research Appraisal Tool (located in Canvas, Learning Path Assessment 1 module) as a Guide for this section of the assessment. As you review this research study, be sure to include the following within this section of the paper: a. State whether this is a quantitative or qualitative research study. Follow the steps outlined in the John Hopkins Research Appraisal Tool. b. What was the purpose of the study? Was the literature review within the study current (most within the past 5 years)? What was the sample size? Was the sample size sufficient? Explain why. c. What were the findings/ results of the study? d. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the study? What are the limitations? e. What was the quality rating (level of evidence) of this article? Refer to the John Hopkins Research Appraisal Tool for guidance. f. Can the results of this study be generalized to your practice setting? Can it be applied to your topic and setting? Discuss implications of the findings from this research study to your QI project. 7. Implications for Nursing Practice- Discuss how this study has implications for nursing practice and improving outcomes within your practice setting. 8. Facilitators and Barriers- Discuss anticipated facilitators and barriers to using this study to carry out practice changes on your topic. What are some facilitators and barriers you might face when applying the findings of this study to your QI project? 9. Conclusion- Provide summary/ conclusion on what your next steps are to continue your QI project, whether you need to conduct additional research, change directions, next steps in the QI model, etc. 10. References-you are required to cite in-text and on the final references page a minimum of 5 professional sources in the form of journal articles. Current practice nurses are calling pharmacies during admission to obtain medication history Issues: Some pharmacies close early and the nurse is unable to reach anyone and the task gets passed on in report and often forgotten d/t the amount of daily tasks nurses have Obtaining multiple medications and instructions at the same time can get confusing and result in error also spelling errors can happen Solution: Our in hospital pharmacists will complete medication history for incoming patient via having their pharmacy fax over the patients records.
