Project Management

According to the Project Management Institute (PMI®, www.pmi.org), approximately 66% of all projects fail to meet the approved schedule and are over budget. Considering this, write a short paper describing how the project management knowledge areas are important to successful project management. Include specific examples from your experience.

Project Management

Describe an actual project, using one of these three categories. Choose the category that is most appropriate for the project you are discussing. Describe in detail how an actual project was conducted, or how the plan for a future product is being created. Discuss the importance of the quality vs budget vs timeline tradeoffs. For this project, when problems occur, will quality, budget, or timeline be the most important? Your response should include Gantt charts and/or Critical Path diagrams, along with associated calculations. Were expectations clearly documented? Can you discuss any points in the project where errors were (or were not) captured which did (or did not) save the firm from future costs? What lessons have been learned?

Project management

Many of you may believe that you have never worked in project management, but in reality, most of you already have at some point in your life. Think back to a time when you organized a key event (for example, birthday parties, weddings, yard projects, house renovations, family vacations, projects at work) that meets the definition of a project (an event with a specific and measurable deliverable, a start and finish date, and a desired budget):

Introduce yourself to your peers by sharing something unique about your background. Explain how you expect this course will help you move forward in your current or future career.
Describe the event you planned.
Summarize the things that went well and things that went wrong, such as unexpected risks, unplanned delays, or extra costs incurred.
Be sure to reference some of the key project manager skills covered from the chapter.
Be sure to respond to at least one of your classmates’ posts.

Project Management

1. Describe what is meant by resource leveling or smoothing. Why is it used? When is it used?
2. Define the following: TBC, CBC, CAC, CEV, CPI, CV, FCAC, and TCPI. How is each calculated?
3. It finally happened. Wedding Bells are in your future!
It is time to plan the wedding. The budget is a major issue. Put together a detailed budget to get married.
Be sure to include costs of the wedding ceremony, wedding attire. location rental, wedding party expenses, food costs, honeymoon costs, rings, and any other ideas.

Project management

Consider the project scenario we have used during this term. As the project manager, you are in the finishing stage of the project, and it is apparent that one of the project’s deliverables will not be completed before the project is wrapped up.

What options do you have for this uncompleted deliverable?
Provide an example of how poor escalation of a project problem can create additional problems.
Explain your rationale.
