Police misconduct

Police misconduct is a serious issue in the United States. While the Department of Justice can conduct “Pattern and Practice” investigations into State and Local law enforcement agencies, most allegations of misconduct are investigated at the local level, either by the law enforcement agency, or by some kind of civilian oversight authority.

Identify three positive and three negatives with civilian oversight investigations of police misconduct. From your list, select what you feel is the most important positive and the most important negative issue with civilian oversight. Describe each in detail, and explain why you feel this is the most significant positive issue and the most significant negative issue.

The writing assignment in this course is a literature review of one of the course-related topics listed below. Once you select a topic, identify 4 (four) scholarly
peer-reviewed journal articles, and then critically review the literature related to your chosen topic. Please note that newspapers, Facebook, Buzzfeed articles,
and all other non-scholarly sources are strictly prohibited. Additionally, annotated bibliographies are not the same type of writing as literature reviews.
Literature reviews collect and discuss literature in a topical or time-oriented manner rather than discussing each source in a paragraph by itself. These
themes should become the paragraph topics for your paper, not article-by-article. For example, you may ask yourself: “What do these readings have in
common? How do they differ? What does source A say about topic X that is different from what source B says about topic X?”
