Examine how instructional design is informed by student learning theory. Select one motivational and one learning theory that was presented in NUR 660 and apply them to the instructional design process (if you have not yet taken NUR 660, you have access to the textbook on VitalSource and your nursing texts also include learning theories).

Identify the theories you selected
Explain why you are drawn to these theories.
In a practical/concrete way, discuss how they will inform your decisions as you design your online course.
How might these theories help you to quickly adapt your curriculum to current events (e.g. the pandemic) or changes in the health care system?

Research the work of psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus and his work on memory. He was interested in learning retention. Ebbinghaus wrote about how a significant amount of material can be forgotten within 20 minutes to 1 hour of learning it. Write a brief analysis about his forgetting curve. Identify at least 1 learning method that can help your learners retain information from your course longer. Also, be sure to address the following:

Why is it important to understand how adults learn and maximize learning in the workplace?

How does this knowledge about adult learning contribute to an organization’s learning return on investment (ROI)?

Based on your selected topic for your short training course, develop a brief PowerPoint presentation about the objectives and goals of your course. Include a list of 3–5 objectives for the course, and outline what your audience will learn in the course. List 2 valuable corporate training and workplace education tools that you will use in the course to help your learners understand the objectives and meet the outcomes of the course.

Find 1 learning theory, and research it fully using online resources and your course materials. For a listing of various learning theories, you can use this link. For this assignment, complete the following:

Explain the key concepts of the theory that you selected.
How would you apply the key concepts of the theory to facilitating the development and learning of others?
Create a brief PowerPoint presentation with 4–5 slides and 100–150 words per slide that explains the theory and its applicability to your own learning.

Review the following scenario: Keven is a sixth-grade student who has attended three schools in the past two years. His mother is in the military and is currently deployed overseas. Keven lives at home with his father and two younger sisters. Keven is a good reader and typically earns Bs and Cs in all subjects except for math. Keven is currently failing his math class, and he failed math when he was in fifth grade. Keven’s math teacher, Ms. Thomas, describes his classroom behavior as unmotivated, careless, and frequently off-task. Ms. Thomas has tried to encourage Keven by offering incentives for improved classroom participation, but Keven declined to participate in the incentive program. Ms. Thomas held a conference with Keven and his father to discuss Keven’s classroom behavior, but Keven’s father seemed tired and distracted. He said that math has always been a challenge for Keven. Outside of school, Keven enjoys karate, skateboarding, and playing computer games. He attends church with his family and seems to enjoy the Sunday School program. Ms. Thomas is concerned about Keven’s ability to pass the state standardized math test that will be administered in approximately three months. For this assignment, you ‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍will write a 2,000-word paper (minimum) that presents a customized learning theory for Keven. The paper should include principles of the developmental learning theories (i.e., Piaget, Kohlberg, Vygotsky, Erickson, Bandura, etc.) studied in this course, as they relate to Keven’s unique educational needs. The paper must include an introduction, conclusion, and the following components:
1) Description of an effective teacher for Keven, including a. Character development b. Engaging with students who have diverse learning needs c. Building self-efficacy d. Developing relationships
2) Description of an effective learning environment for Keven, including a. Direct instruction b. Technology c. Motivation d. Behavior management
3) Biblical basis for your learning theory, including a. Specific scriptures referenced by chapter and verse The paper must include citations from at least 4 scholarly sources, in addition to both course textbook (Gutek).
