Using one conflict from the most recent year in the UCDP list (https://ucdp.uu.se/downloads/index.html#armedconflict),
– terrorism, opportunity, bargaining, environmental issues, gender, or ethnicity – using one of these to explain the conflict, why the conflict started, why it continues, and/or dynamics during it. When discussing the framework, be sure to explicitly discuss the main ideas behind it. Use and define key concepts. Then apply the framework to the conflict, describing to what extent it does or not help us to understand the conflict.

Complete a three-page minimum, college-level essay (APA formatting) identifying and discussing how our government and law enforcement can partner with private companies/corporations to combat international and/or domestic terrorism.
So what does that mean? As just one example, can/should law enforcement partner with social media companies, like Facebook, to monitor and track potential terrorists? If so, what does that look like, considering the privacy and free speech complications we have discussed in Chapters 13, 14, and 15 of Terrorism and Homeland Security by Jonathan R. White. But that is just one example; you are free to discuss any public-private (government-nongovernmental) partnership.

It is rather clear from today’s headlines that IF it is possible to find a means of holding East Ukraine and West Ukraine together under a common government, a major state-building task lies ahead to bring the Russian and Ukrainian peoples and halves of this state together in a political process and economy that benefits both parts of the state.

Do you believe that if it comes to that point the United States should join EU countries in committing resources to that state building process? And if it becomes necessary to insert a peacekeeping force in Ukraine to guarantee the stable climate that state-building requires, do you believe that the United States should join other countries in that multinational endeavor? Why or why not?
