In order to use hypothesis testing and estimation for statistical inference, you must know the population standard deviation in advance. However, this condition is often unrealistic in actual practice.
Select two or three health-related issues that have population-wide ramifications but assume the population standard deviation is not known.
Discuss how you would approach collecting and analyzing data to make accurate generalizations about the population as a whole.
For each scenario you selected, describe the validity of making statistically significant inferences from your sample data when the population standard deviation is known versus not known.
In each case, how does the size of the samples affect the outcomes? Time permitting, conduct Internet research about similar real-life studies to support your conclusions.

Hypothesis testing is a well-structured process that consists of several logical steps, and it aims at refining a business decision. Hypothesis testing is a quite common technique used by researchers. With regard to hypothesis testing, answer the following questions.
What are the steps to conduct a hypothesis test? How does a researcher determine which statistical test to conduct?
How does a researcher determine which level of significance to use?
What software programs can be used to compute these tests? Where is the critical test value found?
How can one determine if the null hypothesis should be rejected?
Give a business example on each of the three possible cases of hypothesis testing. Do you think the rejection region will be different in each one of the three cases? Why? Why not?
Justify your answers using examples and reasoning. Comment on the postings of at least two peers and state whether you agree or disagree with their views.

The Lazer Company has a contract to produce a part for Boeing Corporation that must have an average diameter of 6 inches and a standard deviation of 0.10 inch. The Lazer Company has developed a process that will meet the specifications with respect to the standard deviation, but it is still trying to meet the mean specifications. A test run (considered a random sample) of parts was produced, and the company wishes to determine whether this latest process that produced the sample will produce parts meeting the requirement of an average diameter equal to 6 inches.
Use Excel to:
Construct the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses with correct parameters.
Develop the decision rule assuming that the sample size is 200 parts and the significance level is 0.01.
In a Word document:
Recommend what the Lazer Company should conclude if the sample mean diameter for the 200 parts is 6.03 inches.

Hypothesis testing allows us to use an analytical process to determine if a hypothesis is retained OR rejected. This process compares a null hypothesis (HO), which states things as we believe they are, to an alternative hypothesis (HA), which proposes a change to what we believe exists.
