Hypertension
Hypertension is a serious medical issue that can increase a person’s risk of developing other chronic diseases. This 46-year-old African American woman remains hypertensive despite metoprolol tartrate 25MG twice daily. African Americans respond differently to high blood pressure medication than other ethnic groups. Blacks physiologically have excessive levels of angiotensin which makes certain medications such as ace inhibitors, arbs, and beta-blockers less responsive. For African descent patients, initial treatment for hypertension without evidence of heart failure or chronic kidney disease should include CCB or a thiazide diuretic (Hassan & Zeltse, 2022). Due to her history of Myocardial Infarction, I would recommend discontinuation of Metoprolol and monotherapy with Hydrochlorothiazide 25 MG orally once daily. If the blood pressure persists increase Hydrochlorothiazide 50MG once daily or in two divided doses of 25MG. Non-pharmacological consists of the limitation of salt, saturated fats, and exercise.

Expectations for This Project
You should be able to do the following:
Identify a nutritional topic of interest that can be applied to a current nutritional issue
Identify information that addresses the nutritional issue
Analyze information to apply it to a defined population
Examine areas in which additional information may be needed to help a defined population address the nutritional issue
Recommend approaches to distribute the nutritional information to a defined population
Topics
There are a variety of topics available as the focus of your academic research paper. This paper should be about nutrition, which is a broad topic. You can choose any area of nutrition you would like. Here are a few examples, but please don’t let these examples limit your topic choice. You can pick something that interests you about nutrition.
The impact of nutrition on the development of a chronic pathology, such as
Hypertension
Osteoporosis
Osteoarthritis
Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Heart disease
Atherosclerosis
Multiple sclerosis
Covid-19
Note: If you choose to write about a pathology, you need to make sure the paper is about how nutrition prevents or affects the pathology. This paper should not be about medical drugs or surgeries.
Hypertension
Choose a disease state( Hypertension) that complicates early readmission and adapt three areas of intervention to enhance the wellness of the patient population using the chronic care model. Discuss specific AGACNP initiatives that could improve patient outcomes, reduction in incidence of early readmission, and avoidance of increased length of stay (LOS).
Hypertension
Analyze the increased complexity of care among older adults.
Submit a 1-page proposal, written using proper spelling, grammar, and APA, which addresses the following:
Identify the client problem your in-service will address.
Describe at least 5 consequences of the client problem as it relates to the health, safety, and well-being of older adults.
Explain your rationale for choosing the client problem you selected.
Hypertension
Develop an instructional brochure on the nutritional aspects of one of the disorders below:
Hypertension
Include in your brochure all points below:
Explanation of the pathophysiology of the disorder. Provide 4 risk factors OR 4 symptoms of the disorder.
Two common medications used for the disorder. Explain how medications work to treat the disorder. Include 3 nutritional considerations for each medication.
Identify an evidence-based diet to prevent or reduce the incidence of the disorder.
Include at least 3 specific foods that should be included in the diet, provide rational for why foods should be included in the diet for this disease process.
Include at least 3 specific foods that should be avoided in the diet, provide rational for why the foods should be excluded from the diet for disease process.
Examples of Evidence-based diets:
Low sodium diet
Hypertension
A 56-year-old patient with newly diagnosed stage 1 hypertension has been referred to you for counseling regarding lifestyle modifications. He is married, with four children — two in high school, two in college. His job as a senior vice-president for a major retail chain requires that he work long hours and frequently eat at restaurants. He smokes two packs of cigarettes a day, has a body mass index (BMI) of 29 kg/m2, and a waist-hip ratio of 1.6. He usually drinks one to two dry martinis to relax after he gets home from work.
How would you develop a realistic plan to help this patient reduce his blood pressure and prevent complications?
Which risk factors would be among your top two or three priorities for this patient, and what interventions or recommendations would you provide for modifying these?
Hypertension
Explain how the patient, family, or population problem impacts the quality of care, patient safety, and costs to the system and individual.
Cite evidence that supports the stated impact.
Note whether the supporting evidence is consistent with what you see in your nursing practice.
Explain how state board nursing practice standards and/or organizational or governmental policies can affect the problem’s impact on the quality of care, patient safety, and costs to the system and individual.
Describe research that has tested the effectiveness of these standards and/or policies in addressing care quality, patient safety, and costs to the system and individual.
Explain how these standards and/or policies will guide your actions in addressing care quality, patient safety, and costs to the system and individual.
Describe the effects of local, state, and federal policies or legislation on your nursing scope of practice, within the context of care quality, patient safety, and cost to the system and individual.
Propose strategies to improve the quality of care, enhance patient safety, and reduce costs to the system and individual.
Discuss research on the effectiveness of these strategies in addressing care quality, patient safety, and costs to the system and individual.
Identify relevant and available sources of benchmark data on care quality, patient safety, and costs to the system and individual.
Use paraphrasing and summarization to represent ideas from external sources.
Apply APA style and formatting to scholarly writing.
Type 1 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and osteoarthritis
The nurse is visiting a 78-year-old client in the home. The client has type 1 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and osteoarthritis in both knees. The client’s sight is moderately impaired despite the use of eyeglasses. The client’s medication regimen includes Humulin insulin 70/30 (combination insulins) 35 units subcutaneously in the morning, lisinopril (Zestril) 5 mg by mouth daily, and nabumetone (Relafen) 500 mg by mouth twice daily.
What are 2 important medication safety issues the nurse will assess in the client?
What measures can the nurse suggest to the client to ensure accuracy and compliance with the medication regimen?
The client reports feeling “dizzy” at times. How will the nurse evaluate this concern?
