Capitalism, slavery, and anti-slavery (the so-called Williams Debate)
For sources: you may use any of the sources and readings we have used in class. I encourage you to also use other library and online resources, but keep usage of Wikipedia and History.com for reference only. Avoid citing from those sources.
How many sources? – for a 5-7 page paper, you should have at least four, preferably between 5 and 8 sources.
Citations – I encourage students taking history classes to learn how to write footnotes (Chicago style) because it’s good to learn this. I EXPECT History majors to use Chicago Style. For non-History majors, you may use the citation style of your major (APA, MLA, for example) if you are more comfortable doing so.
Academic Integrity – once you send your papers to me on Blackboard email as an attachment, I will put them through SafeAssign. You will hear from me if there is an issue

Explain how this concept interacts with an area of your interest. Your area of interest could be a hobby, your academic field, your desired career, a place you care about, etc. How does this concept harm or help this interest of yours? Does this give you privilege or marginalize you within this space? You need to back this up with sources.
Based on your sociological analysis of this field you’re interested in, what would need to change to make it better?
How can you tangibly effect that change? Are there things you wish you had already done, things you can do now, and things you can plan to do in the future?

Capitalism is an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state whereas socialism is a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole. (Shaw, William H. (2014). Business ethics (8th ed.). Boston, MA: Wadsworth, Cengage Learning). In this assignment, you will define the roles capitalism and socialism play along with the pros and cons of each.
In two to three (2-3) paragraphs:
Briefly define, in your own words, the concepts of capitalism and socialism. Then list three pros and cons of each.
The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

Analyze selected business situations using the predominant ethical theories, such as utilitarian, Kantian, and virtue ethics to guide ethical business decision making.
Use technology and information resources to research issues in business ethics.
Write clearly and concisely about business ethics using proper writing mechanics.
In Germany, under the model of “stakeholder capitalism”, employee representatives sit on company boards of directors. In the German model of business, it is assumed that both labor (employee representatives) and capital (shareholder representatives) have important stakes in the enterprise and should work in harmony with each other. In the United States, the board of directors usually represents only the owners of the business.
1.What advantages are there to employees as stakeholders in Germany that are not provided to employees in US companies? Discuss in detail
2. In the United States, how do employees let management know their stakeholder concerns? Discuss in detail
