The United States incarcerates more people, in both absolute numbers and per capita, than any other nation in the world. Since 1970, the number of incarcerated people has increased sevenfold to 2.3 million in jail and prison today, far outpacing population growth and crime.

In the United States, approximately half a million correctional officers are responsible for supervising more than two million inmates. Correctional officers are exposed to unique workplace hazards within a controlled prison environment.

During your reading this term, you read some chapters from the textbook and reviewed some resources about mass incarceration and the death penalty. You reviewed those chapters again this week. Before a policy can be created, a problem must exist that is called to the attention of the government. Illegal immigration, for example, has been going on for many years, but it was not until the 1990s that enough people considered it such a serious problem that it required increased government action. Another example is crime. American society tolerates a certain level of crime; however, when crime rises dramatically or is perceived to be rising dramatically, it becomes an issue for policymakers to address.

Consistent and effective policies at the federal level are critical to the success of government and nonprofit organizations. What factors determine a successful vs. ineffective public policy?

Write a 3-4 page paper in which you do the following:
Using a policy from the topic you chose in the Week 8 assignment:

Provide a thorough background and history of your chosen policy. This should include what underlying issue the policy was intended to address, who the major influencers were in creating the policy, and when it was officially adopted. Title this section Background and History.
In your opinion, was the policy a success or failure? Why? Be sure to list at least one positive and one negative outcome of the policy. Title this section Outcomes.
Defend your position with substantial professional information and statistics.

Keller (2014) states, “We must love our neighbor, but Christianity gives us very specific
teachings about human nature and what makes human beings flourish. We must make sure that
our work is done in line with these understandings. Faithful work, then, is to operate out of a
Christian Worldview” (p. 21).
The different Christian traditions “give somewhat different answers of how we should go about
the task of recapturing vocation. The streams are often confusing to Christians, for they are not
perfectly complementary to one another” (Keller, 2014, p. 21).
In these assignments, you will reflect on some of these sentiments that Keller introduces in Every
Good Endeavor and explore the ethical and legal foundations of his statements as they relate to
business.
INSTRUCTIONS
Your assignment should include two paragraphs: one consisting of a reflection, and one on the
legal implications for business. Each of the paragraphs should reference a peer-reviewed source.
You should also include a reference section with the two sources and follow APA formatting for
in-text citations.
In your reflection, you will be asked to read a peer-reviewed article relate to the topic. Then you
will reflect on the prompt from Keller’s book in light of this article by answering the questions
associated with the particular prompt for the assignment. In your second paragraph, you will
discuss the ethical and legal implications of Keller’s statement from a business perspective.
