Nike was able to eventually solve various large challenges. But some large moral/ethical issues we face in the business world continue to evade a complete solution. This includes in the chocolate industry.

Please read this article by Whoriskey and Siegel concerning the child labor problems with the chocolate industry in Africa. (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.)

Assume that you are a cashier and your manager requires that you immediately enter each sale when it occurs. Recently, lunch hour traffic has increased and the assistant manager asks you to avoid delays by taking customers’ cash and making change without entering sales. The assistant manager says she will add up cash and enter sales after lunch. She says that, in this way, customers will be happy and the register record will always match the cash amount when the manager arrives at three o’clock. The advantage to the process proposed by the assistant manager includes improved customer service, fewer delays, and less work for you. The disadvantage is that the assistant manager could steal cash by simply recording less sales than the cash received and then pocketing the excess cash. You decide to reject her suggestion without the manager’s approval and to confront her on the ethics of her suggestion.

Article Report Instructions
Your article report study will include a current business article of your choice. “Current” means not older than one year. This report will be a summary of an article you have selected from a current national news magazine, newspaper, or website.
Attached is the BUSI 1301 Report Format

1. Write a three to five sentence summary of the article. You will briefly summarize the article by stating the main points in your own words in a few complete sentences (just enough to capture the gist of the article). DO NOT include your opinion in the summary section of the report. A summary includes only information that is contained in the article–it is not an essay. (Attached is the BUSI 1301 Report Format)
2. (Separate Page) Write at least a half-page, double-spaced opinion section about the article. Provide your conclusions or opinions about the article. Your thoughts/opinion should only appear in the opinion section. Do not restate the summary. What is your opinion and how does it relate to business?
3. The report must be in the correct format with all items completed, all information typed. The writing must be correct with regard to grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.
4. Include a copy of the article or a web link to the article with the completed Article Report.

5. Substantiate your answers with quotations from the course textbook and give parenthetical citation. Explain the connection to your opinion. Do not cite a broad range of pages as the source for the answer. In other words, do not cite pages 33-55; be specific.
6. If there is no summary or text citations, there could be a substantial percent deduction.
