Provide background information about your research project so that readers can understand the aim of your research (next section).
- Aim of Research
Give a brief description of the aim of the research. Keep this section brief (often only one sentence is needed) as it should be a logical follow on from the Introduction. - Project Scope
Outline the scope of the project, what will you investigate, what will not be part of your research. - Approach
Outline how you will meet the aim of this research or solve the problem formulated above. What will you do, e.g. design equipment/software/experiments, collect data, simulate scenarios, compare simulation to measure data, etc. - Specification of Deliverables of the Project
Outline what deliverables you expect to achieve to meet the aim of this research or solve the problem formulated in 2. - Gantt Chart
Make a Gantt chart of the project (this includes Part A and Part B for thesis students) noting all milestones and critical paths, leading to the deliverables mentioned above. - Resources Required
Outline the resources required for the project, including:
• a description of the materials, equipment and/or software needed to complete the project (list everything you need and clearly indicate what is already available for your project);
• total number of hours required from the technical support staff (clearly state if you do not need technical support for your project);
• a preliminary budget of funding required (please note that a pass mark for the research plan does not mean your funding has been approved. To request funding you must complete the Technical Support and Funding Request Form available. If your project does not need any funding, clearly state this.
