Section A – (50 Marks)
During the module you participated in a production simulation exercise. With reference to this exercise:
(a) Explain your group’s strategy and its strengths and weaknesses. Include in your 12.5 marks answer, any changes that you made during the exercise, and if so, how and why you made such changes in terms of Forecasting, Planning, Inventory, Scheduling, and Capacity.
Produce a Master Production Schedule (MPS) for Week’s 25 through 35 explaining 12.5 marks
(b) the logic behind the schedule. Include in your answer a copy of the Master Production Schedule (MPS) with its logic.
(c) Describe a formula that can be used to calculate inventory holding levels for a required customer service level. Include in your answer a brief description of what each of the terms represents, and the limitations of the formula, if any, you have recommended.
(d) Discuss the relevance of exponential smoothing as a forecasting tool for the aerials 12.5 marks data. You answer should include a brief description of what exponential smoothing is and its preferable value for this particular case, including its advantages and limitations, and the use and value of Triggs Tracking Signal.
