How African Americans are treated in the U.S. Justice System
As your culminating project, you will be required to write a 10 page history research paper on a topic of your own choosing related to state injustice against African Americans (military, a specific war experience, welfare, Affirmative Action, prisons, policing, surveillance, disaster relief, forced sterilization, justice system etc.). The paper must be grounded in history—not sociology or political science, so it must analyze an event that happened in the past (before 2010). It must utilize primary and secondary sources. Many of these sources are accessible online.
The paper must have a thesis (1 sentence argument), and must be built on original research and primary source documents. The evidence must prove the argument
In addition, a minimum of 5 secondary sources must be used.
Papers must be typed using Times New Roman Font, doubled spaced with one-inch margins.
The paper should utilize footnotes only (no parenthetical or endnotes).
Sources should be cited using Kate Turabian or Chicago Manual of Style.
