Fate: The burning of Troy is symbolic of the destruction of an entire nation and culture. In Books 2, we see Troy fall to the Greeks, but there are numerous examples of omens that fortell that Aeneas and his son will eventually found Rome. Of course, Aeneas is reluctant to leave the burning city, and his father, Anchises, is reluctant to leave with him. Find an example in Books 2-3 where there is a tension between leaving the old behind and embracing what is new. How do the characters struggle with their own will, what they desire, and fate or the will of the gods.
