Developmental Assessment and the School-Aged Child

The needs of the pediatric patient differ depending on age, as do the stages of development and the expected assessment findings for each stage. In a 500-750-word paper, examine the needs of a school-aged child between the ages of 5 and 12 years old and discuss the following:
As you complete your papers in the following weeks, remember you need a thesis statement. This statement tells your audience the purpose of your paper. It should outline all elements of your paper. Although not the only way to include a thesis statement- try using ….This paper will review, in this paper will discuss, etc. This helps focus your thoughts and brings the purpose of the paper to the reader’s eye. If you don’t use a statement ie This paper will review – be sure to clearly and completely define the purpose of the paper. In my opinion, the phrases above are an easy way to help focus your thoughts and include a thesis statement. Please know that many professors will disagree and state – a paper cannot “discuss” and they do not allow some of that verbiage – but in my class, at this stage of your writing – I am more concerned with you getting familiar with the idea of constructing a thesis statement; then we can work on improving the verbiage. You can GOOGLE search thesis statements and find a lot of great information!
Tip: refrain from using “I” in your thesis statement. First person is allowed very minimally in APA.

  1. Describe the different physical characteristics/findings within the school-aged child. Explain how you would modify assessment techniques to match the age and developmental stage of this child.
  2. Choose a child between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. Identify the age of the child and describe the typical developmental stages of children that age.
  3. Applying developmental theory based on Erickson, Piaget, or Kohlberg, explain how you would developmentally assess the child. Include how you would offer explanations during the assessment, strategies you would use to gain cooperation, and potential findings from the assessment.
You are required to cite a minimum
