Chemical Economics and Ethics

The development and manufacturing of compounds by companies to fight diseases and combat ailments can often cost hundreds of millions of dollars. Let’s imagine a scenario. A company discovers a novel compound that can now cure a once incurable disease or virus that impacts millions of people (e.g. Cancer, AIDS, Influenza), does that company now have the right to charge whatever it costs to earn back the money it invested in time and capital?
