Basic Linguistic Principles For Teaching ELLs

Assessment Description

In simplest terms, linguistics is the study of human language. With a foundational knowledge of the components of language and psycholinguistics, which includes how language is acquired, teachers can support English language learners (ELLs) as they develop English language proficiency.
Create a 10-12 slide digital presentation for a staff meeting introducing basic linguistic principles to teachers and staff who work with ELLs. Include the following in your presentation:
Describe the importance of linguistics and how it informs the teaching of ELLs.
Briefly define the following language structures: phonology, morphology, semantics, syntax, and pragmatics.
Summarize at least four major theories of first language (L1) acquisition.
Describe the typical developmental process of language when children acquire their first language. Include brief descriptions of at least four stages of L1 acquisition.
Support your presentation with a minimum of three scholarly resources.
The digital presentation should include graphics that are relevant to the content, visually appealing, and use space appropriately.
Presenter’s notes are required for each content slide. Presentation must include a title slide at the beginning, and a reference slide with documentation of resources at the end. The title slide and reference slide are not included in the total number of slides.

Advocating For Early Childhood Students

Policy and decision makers do not always understand the development and educational needs of young children. It is the job of the early childhood educator to advocate for the resources required to meet the needs of all students. Early childhood educators should be ready to provide the information policy and decision makers need to determine the value of differentiated early childhood education programs.

For this benchmark assignment, research a current statute in which the state legislature has made a decision that affects the differentiation needs of early childhood students. Then, write a letter to your legislative representative either for or against the statute, advocating for the differentiated needs of early childhood students.

Include:

Two or more of the theoretical concepts studied in this course to support your position.

How you identify the students’ readiness for learning in at least two developmental domains (cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and/or physical development).

How educational professionals, such as key researchers, speech pathologists, reading specialists, etc. collaborate to evaluate the outcomes of teaching and learning and to adapt and differentiate planning and practice for all students.

How differentiating instruction for young children can positively influence the developmental domains.

Support your letter with 3-5 scholarly references.

Outlines Of The Book Of Roman

Students will produce book outlines of the biblical book of Roman. Read and summarized for the reading assignment. Outlines should be thorough and not merely based on headings found in a particular English version but thoughtful analysis. Outlines should account for important literary movements and changes throughout the book, showing at least three levels of outlines.

The atmosphere and the victim

Question 1
In order to conceal the dependent measures in the study, a researcher will ask about the atmosphere and the victim when looking at the impact of appearances on perceptions of criminal
activity. These unrelated inquiries are known as
O independent measures.
O task measures.
O filler items.
O placebo measures.
Question 2
After conducting an experiment, a researcher tells his subjects about the goal of his study, the anticipated findings, and the real-world applications of his work. He questions the subjects about their
emotions during the investigation. This procedure is known as a
O pilot study.
O staged manipulation.
O manipulation check.
O debriefing session.
Question 3
The chair of the psychology department at a university is curious about how psychology students feel about requiring an internship as part of the degree requirements. She obtains a list of every student majoring in psychology, chooses 100 students randomly from that list, and surveys the chosen individuals. What kind of sampling methodology has she used?
O stratified random sampling
O simple random sampling
O haphazard sampling
O cluster sampling
Question 4
A researcher is looking for information on how locals feel about the plan to build a new stadium in their community. The researcher assembles groups of people from the public and asks them to debate the benefits and drawbacks of the suggested stadium. A(n)
approach might be used to describe this kind of data collection.
0 qualitative
0 quantitative
O intrinsic
O extrinsic
Question 5
What statement about nonconcealed observation is accurate?
O Contrary to concealed observation, it is less reactive.
O It absolves the observer from providing informed consent for the study.
O In comparison to concealed observation, it has less of an impact on the participants.
O From an ethical perspective, it is probably preferable to concealed observation

Current social issues

Consider one of the following current social issues – or one of your choice:
Gun violence
Racism
Economic inequality
Sexism
Violent crime
Immigration
For the initial post, address the following:
State your position on one of these issues – are you for, against, or neutral? Explain why. Avoid vagueness or ambiguity in your response. Make your position very clear.
Examine how you have formed that opinion.
How well do you think you know the facts?
Do you know and understand statistical information that applies to the issue?
Do you think you have formed your opinion using only System-1 thinking, or have you applied System-2?
What part have heuristics, cognitive bias, and dominance structuring played in how you have formed your opinions?
The initial post is not about how “correct” your position is; it is about how you arrived at your position on the issue. This discussion requires application of metacognition – thinking about how you think.

Kant’s famous First Formulation

Kant’s famous First Formulation of the Categorical Imperative reads, “Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law.” Kant taught morality as a matter of following maxims of living that reflect absolute laws. “Universal” is a term that allows for no exceptions, and what is universal applies always and everywhere. Don’t forget about the second formulation of the categorical imperative which states, “Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means.” It is just as important.
For the initial post, address one of the following sets of questions:
What are the personal and/or communal ethical factors that may be involved in determining the moral position of either side given a contemporary debate, such as those concerning animal rights, stem cell research, abortion, the death penalty, and so forth?
Elaborate in detail the ethical positions arrived at by using the Kantian categorical imperative relative to the long standing debate surrounding the death penalty or abortion. Argue the ethics from the point of view of the prisoner or from the fetus
Evaluate the ethical positions in part two. You will want to detail whether they are convincing, logical, correct, consistent, etc.
