Social media marketers, like TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter are supported by advertising (it’s over 90% of their revenue). That means they need to monitor and analyze your discussions, posts, videos on their platforms and also monitor activity on the internet that occurs outside their platforms (including activities like shopping, messaging, streaming) to provide data to advertisers to more effectively target you for ads. Is it worth it? Would you rather have your online activity under constant surveillance and get free access to social media, or would you prefer to pay a monthly subscription (let’s say $5 a month) to use social media without ads and constant surveillance? Why?

Also, imagine you work for a marketing agency that provides treatment for persons with migraine headaches. Is it OK to use social media monitoring to identify persons having discussions about their migraine headaches to target ads to them, or should that information about health conditions be considered private and confidential? What would you do as a marketing professional who is presented with the challenge of reaching persons who suffer from migraine headaches?

They have three main beliefs:

CREATIVITY: Strive to bring imagination, original ideas, and excitement to everything they do.

PIONEERING: Acting with the curiosity and courage it takes to experiment, innovate, and lead.

PASSION: They are at their best when they pursue what they love while having fun doing it.

Although the company’s market share and revenue are not bad, they have no clear marketing strategy. They mainly focus on word of mouth based on their products’ variety, price, quality, and after-sales services. Now, they have decided to take advantage of Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC). Therefore, they have invited four marketing consulting groups to develop a sound online marketing strategy. In this game, the four consulting teams describe four different approaches as follows:

Approach 1: Customer-centered approach: Viral marketing and crowdsourcing

This consulting team needs to explain how this company can take advantage of viral marketing and crowdsourcing to improve the quality of products/services, come up with new ideas, reduce errors and bugs, and increase revenue. It would help if you described your proposed strategies for viral marketing. Why could crowdsourcing be a promising way to influence organizational performance? Give one example of a crowdsourcing project that best matches the company.

Approach 2: Network-centered approach: Influencer marketing

This consulting group needs to focus on the influencer marketing approach. You need to explain how the company can use influencer marketing to get more followers and likes, increase the number of actual users, and improve revenue. It will help if you articulate your plan. For example, which influencer (s), celebrity (ties), or Viner (s) will you pick? Why? How will this choice affect the company’s bottom lines?

Approach 3: SM- centered approach: Social media platforms and social media management tools

This consulting team needs to convince the management that the best way to improve marketing and advertising activities, enhance reputation, elevate brand awareness, retain and manage current customers, attract potential customers, and increase revenue is by choosing the best social media platforms. It would then help if you highlighted that the company should use SM tools to manage and harmonize the SM channels. You need to explain what social media is the best option for them. Why? What tools do they need to use to manage them? How to draft their SM policies?

Approach 4: Online word-of-mouth approach: Outrageous marketing approach

This consulting group needs to provide enough evidence to convince the management that being outrageous is the best marketing approach. For instance, you can use competitive analysis to show some successful outrageous strategies. Why do other companies (in a related or unrelated industry) use this approach? What are the advantages and possible risks associated with this approach? You also need to either draft your idea about your outrageous plan and describe it or prepare a short video (or any multimedia materials) to offer your solution practically.

Identify an example of unethical behavior in social media. The behavior may be on the part of a celebrity, politician, or organization.

SOCIAL WORK HISTORY, MISSION, AND YOUR ROLE

Explain how 1 or more aspects of the history of social work relate to the social work population with whom you want to work.
In the reading, it states, “Social service agencies were unprepared to address the mounting needs of not only the indigent but also members of the working-class (Cox, L. E., Tice, C. J., & Long, D. D. (2019) pg. 30).” This was happening during the Great Depression and many people were struggling to make ends meet as it was an economic disaster. This reminds me a lot of the Covid pandemic as some people lost jobs or were unable to work due to being sick and quarantining. The government helped us out by sending us relief checks. The people that benefited the most from that were people with childcare assistance, or food assistance as they received more during the pandemic. I think it did help many families out as they were already struggling before the pandemic let alone possibly losing a job or off work for longer periods to quarantine. That would ensure children and families to have the necessities on the table. During times like the ones mentioned, social workers are learning about different resources that are coming out to better help these families.

The mission of social work aligns with my goals to become a social worker is to help people better their everyday lives. I want people to know their potential, to feel empowered, and to make their goals come true. I have always had the tendency to help people from an early age, and I want to continue to do that as a career. I have heard people say before that if you really love your job, it will not feel like you have one. That is my ultimate goal.

The mission of Social Work relates to the population that I want to work with in that it is my personal goal to work with Veterans who suffer from mental health issues that include trauma and substance abuse. The Department of Veterans Affairs has reported that more than two of ten Veterans diagnosed with PTSD also suffer from substance abuse, while one out of three are seeking treatment for both at the same time ( va.gov). My personal goal is to be able to meet with individuals in their mental health stage without causing additional triggers or stressors, which would cause them to want to use or go backwards instead of improving. I would meet them with empathy, understanding, an open heart, listening ear, and give them the understanding to let them know their needs can and will be met and they are safe and their mental health is very important.

• Explain how the mission of social work aligns with your goals for your social work career.The primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty. A historic and defining feature of social work is the profession’s focus on individual well-being in a social context and the well-being of society. Fundamental to social work is attention to the environmental forces that create, contribute to, and address problems in living.” With that being said this aligns well with my goals for becoming a social worker, I plan to stay employed with the Department of Veterans Affairs and stay in the Behavioral Health Department. As a Veteran, I don’t feel any Veteran should be without any resources or without the proper help when the VA has the proper resources, so as a social worker, not only will I make sure these Veterans are getting the mental help they need, I will make sure they are receiving all the help they need. I will advocate in any area possible for them. I will be there advocate from the beginning, middle, through the end of therapy for them.
