Osteomyelitis

Pathology Report (100 points) for Anatomy and Physiology I
The 2 Lab Practiclas for this class will be replaced by a Pathology research paper. The paper needs to be 1 – 2 pages and site 3 reference sources. I have a
list of topics for you to choose from . These topics deal with problems associated with systems we
have discussed in class.
Your report should include the following information:
1) name of disease or syndrome: Osteomyelitis
2) age of onset and state symptoms of the disease or problem
3) cause of pathology, is it genetic? Physical? (environmental)
4) what is happening to the body at the cellular and chemical level?
5) treatment and new research if any
6) how does this problem affect someone’s life span?
Describe the anatomical structures that are affected, be specific. Also, describe the physiological problems associated with the disease. This should
include metabolic, environmental or genetic factors.
The following areas need to be explored in your discussion: Cause, Symptoms, Treatments and Prevention.( GRADING: 20 pts for each section and 20 pts
for references)
What chemicals are affected and what is the result or symptoms because of this situation?

Important development in twentieth-century science or technology

write an essay focused on an important development in twentieth-century science or technology that impacted society. Write an essay on this development that covers the four parts described below.
• Part I: thoroughly explain what the development was. Someone who has never heard of the development you chose should be able to understand your explanation.
• Part II: explain how your chosen development was shaped by its social or cultural context and how it, in turn, affected society.
• Part III: get you sci fi on! Imagine that your chosen development had emerged from a different social or cultural context, or with a different representative population. Discuss how this imagined context would have changed the development’s effects on society and/or other STEM fields.
• Part IV: what does the scenario you discussed in part III tell us about the social context of STEM research? Does it suggest any changes that we could make to reap more benefits from STEM going forward?

Types of mitochondrial diseases

In a minimum of three written pages, discuss the various types of mitochondrial diseases. Be specific and detailed. Do not use quotes. Explain in concise detail how each disease can occur, what the symptoms are, How it affects the health of the patient, how it can be treated and/or controlled. Use a minimum of two different primary references. Do not use your textbook, encyclopedias, dictionaries, or open sources such as Wiki[edia as references.

A current event or recent research related to either astronomy or cosmology.

Choose a science news article that highlights a current event or recent research related to either astronomy or cosmology. In searching for an appropriate article, the following online science news sources are suggested. (Do not use reference websites such as Wikipedia or Internet blogs as sources.)

Paragraph 1 – develop a summary, in your own words, of the article’s main points
Paragraph 2 – outline, in your own words and ideas, direct and specific connections between the article and one or more specific concepts presented in this week’s readings and lesson material relevant to the topic
Paragraph 3 – provide your perspective on the article’s importance, drawing on your own experiences as applicable
Provide the exact web address that links directly to the article

The periodic table of elements

  1. Use this link to the periodic table of elements (https://www.google.com/url?q=https://ptable.com/?lang%3Den%23Properties&sa=D&source=editors&ust=1680927733272777&usg=AOvVaw0ZHDdwC9PAp5bkaoNvU-H3) to choose an element that interests you; one you have not heard of before.
  2. Upon choosing your element of interest, use the periodic table and research to conduct the following:
    • Introduction
    • location on the periodic table
    • atomic number
    • atomic mass
    • element symbol
    • who discovered the element and when
    • why this element interests you
    • Chemical properties
    • family/ reactivity trends
    • group/ # valence e’s
    • types of bonds the element can form
    • Physical properties
    • elemental class (metal, non metal, metalloid)
    • applications and uses)
  3. open a blank document for your research paper.
Present your research in the format of a 5-paragraph essay.
    Include the following:
    • Works cited (Periodic table website and any other sources you used)
    • Scientific voice
    • Proper conventions

Public health emphasis

Please respond to the discussions as they relate to your area of public health emphasis (i.e., environmental & occupational health, healthcare administration, health education, or general public health).
Your comments will be graded on how well they meet the Discussion Requirements posted under “Before You Begin.”
As you review the literature regarding measles, what sources will you use to obtain the required information? What government websites will you explore? Are there local health statistics databases available? What are the first three things you will do as you begin working on an outbreak response plan? For example, will you begin by doing some research about the disease? Or would you begin by researching the literature on preventing/treating the disease among immigrant populations? Would you interview people familiar with the population? If so, who? Or would you do something else? Please explain your rationale.
D2
Your comments will be graded on how well they meet the Discussion Requirements posted under “Before You Begin.”
What sources will you explore to get a better understanding of behaviors among your target population? Will you consult websites, journal articles, or books to gain insights on reasoning behind their behavior? What types of sources (e.g., press releases, new reports, etc.) will you utilize to assist you in developing your presentation?
D3
What sources will you explore to gain insights on environmental factors specific to immigrant populations? Will you assess if their communities and/or homes in the United States are similar to where they resided in their native land?
How does one’s culture influence access to and utilization of healthcare? What are the potential barriers and challenges of engaging your target population in vaccine adherence initiatives? Is health literacy a concern?
What global health initiatives and strategies are currently in place to minimize vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks in impoverished countries?
What is the role of the United States in promoting and improving the health of individuals residing in vulnerable regions of the world?
D4
Your comments will be graded on how well they meet the Discussion Requirements posted under “Before You Begin.”
Does the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act effectively address common health care access and quality issues among immigrant populations? If so, explain how. If not, explain what areas need to be strengthened.
What health care access and quality policy recommendations can you, as a public health professional, advocate for?
D5
Reflect upon two concepts that you learned in this course.
What are the concepts? What insight or ideas did you gain from learning each of these concepts? Were there aspects of the concepts that you would challenge?
What is the importance of these concepts to public health? How will you use this new wisdom in your current or future career?
Optional: Offer feedback on how the course and/or facilitation of the course can be improved.
Reflection is a mental process that challenges you to use critical thinking to examine the course information, analyze it carefully, make connections with previous knowledge and experience, and draw conclusions based on the resulting ideas. A well-cultivated critical thinker raises vital questions and problems, formulating them clearly and precisely; gathers and assesses relevant information, using abstract ideas to interpret it effectively; comes to well-reasoned conclusions and solutions, testing them against relevant criteria and standards; thinks open-mindedly within alternative systems of thought, recognizing and assessing, as need be, their assumptions, implications, and practical consequences; and communicates effectively with others in figuring out solutions to complex problems. (Paul & Elder, 2008)
In order to earn maximum credit, the comment should be more than your opinion, and more than a quick “off the top of your head” response. Be sure to support your statements, cite sources properly, cite within the text of your comments, and list your reference(s). The response must be a minimum of 250 words.

Modernizing the mise-en-scène in a 200-word description

In your post, discuss how you would modernize the mise-en-scène in a 200-word description. You can substitute or change any stage directions from the original play; however, you cannot change any text in the dialogue between the two characters. Therefore, your spin on the setting, including any detail on the set, props, and costumes, must make sense with the dialogue. In some cases, altered props or gestures referenced in the dialogue could have “symbolic” meaning for the text in a modern setting.

Comment on any new meanings that arise from the modern updates. Consider new themes emerging that have particular resonance for the 21st century or traditional themes that gain further complexity or depth in today’s world.
