Imagine that you are attending a state conference of urban planners and you are one of the presenters attending a session led by two distinguished researchers in the field. The first researcher, Dr. Adams, is extolling the successes of positive psychology and positive aging, contending that this field will continue to be a viable force in modern psychology. You are excited about the possibility of building communities for positive aging. The second researcher, Dr. Hernandez, believes that there are many challenges faced by the field of positive psychology and aging. The purpose of the session is to identify these challenges and listen to the arguments that are made to refute these issues and concerns for positive aging and building communities for multi-generations that reflect positive psychology research for positive aging.

For this assignment, roleplay the exchange between both researchers and prepare a transcript of the debate that ensues between the two researchers. Both researchers have an opportunity to first explain their positions (e.g., Dr. Adams will offer a brief overview of why positive aging is supported and Dr. Hernandez will present several points to explain why multigenerational living is not a good idea.). Then, they will engage in a dialogue that raises points and counterpoints about the criticisms that have been leveled at the credibility of positive psychology and positive aging approaches. For your roleplay assignment, be sure to address the following:

What challenges would Dr. Hernandez raise about positive aging?

How could Dr. Adams respond to these challenges for positive aging?

You may create your video with freeware such as https://screencast-o-matic.com/. You may also use the video note tool in NCUOne. To create a video note, select the Record video option in the assignment submission area. You will need your webcam to complete this video. Press the New Recording button when you are ready to record your video note and the Stop Recording when finished. Click the Add button to include the video in your assignment submission. Note, the Video Note tool records a maximum of 3 minutes. Plan on splitting your video into multiple segments.

Support your video and transcript with at least five scholarly resources, including those you located last week. Make sure that you locate research that both supports and refutes each of the challenges.

Video Length and Format: Upload as an MP4 file or with the Video Note Tool

Transcript Length: 5-7 pages, not including title and reference pages

Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards where appropriate. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University's Academic Integrity Policy.

Two Visions of Africa

After reading Things Fall Apart & Heart of Darkness, you have explored two visions of Africa which differ in numerous aspects including geography, narrative style, time period, commentary on colonialism/ specific colonizers, and others. Choose ONE of these aspects as the basis for an essay in which you compare and contrast the two novels. Use your close reading skills to analyze specific sections of text from each novel AND use your research skills to include at least TWO Secondary Sources which clarify, illuminate, or otherwise expand the claims that you are making in regards to your chosen focus for the essay. In the course of your analysis and counterargument, you should also address Achebe’s declaration from the previous essay. How do these novels avoid the “dehumanizing” accounts which Achebe claims are fundamental to the narrative in Heart of Darkness? In your conclusion, explain what these two novels might share which distinguishes them from Heart of Darkness.
