The Wedding Gift

Read John 2:1-12 and watch “The Chosen” Season 1, Episode 5 “The Wedding Gift” [it’s free online] and notice how they juxtapose two events (the finding in the Temple, and the Wedding Feast at Cana) in order to bring out what Jesus is doing and who He is.
–Be sure to notice how they portray this in the episode, noting the choices they make: which characters are placed where, how are conversations filled out, etc.
Then choose an event in the Gospel of Mark (if you like a different account in one of the other Gospels, you can use that too). Pair it with an Old Testament event. And discuss how you would write/direct an episode to bring out the two events and show how the New Testament event about Jesus has added meaning from and is fulfilling the Old Testament in a way that further reveals who Jesus is. Basically, how would you shoot or write an episode with a brief 3-4 minute depiction of the OT event and the rest of the episode being the NT event that shows the typology present in the Old and New Testament.
–If you are having trouble thinking of examples, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with me. We can talk through an example, but at least have chosen 2 or so New Testament passages you are interested in.

■ It should be no shorter than 4 pages. The paper should:
–Firstly, tell me what the exact two passages are that you are working with and what happens in them.
–Secondly, tell me how the OT event prefigures and is fulfilled in the NT event. You should also say how understanding the OT event helps in understanding the NT event (especially Jesus) and note any typology. [Typology- antetype, type]
–Explain how you would write/shoot an episode to bring this out typology and meaning out (what characters would you emphasize, what would you do with dialogue, are there any particular ways you would shoot scenes?)
■ Be sure to include a thesis statement in the first part. It should have what your two passages are and the main things you plan to discuss and emphasize in your episode writing/shooting that illuminate the two passages. Again, be mindful of your grammar. Double space and include a heading and title.

Quotations should be done from Scripture in the form of: “Quote (Book Name Chapter Number: verse number-verse number). While you do not need to use secondary research, if you have any additional quotes please use MLA formatting.

The Jesus Film of Jesus washing the disciples feet

First watch this brief scene from the Jesus Film of Jesus washing the disciples feet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx9KuZU1EjY
There are so many ways Jesus models what being a transformational teacher looks like on this special night… remember, Jesus was God in the flesh, the
creator, and yet notice how He used his authority and position. He served and didn’t demand to be served. He spoke gently. He touched in affirming and
appropriate ways. He encouraged and affirmed. He spoke identity over them. He prayed for them… I could go on and on and on.
One powerful one… He also shocks his disciples by washing their feet. The creator of the universe took the lowest of lowest positions and washed the
disciple’s feet as a way to show them what true servanthood and kingdom leadership looked like. Instead of demanding they wash his feet, he washed theirs.
In this act alone, Jesus teaches us so much about who He is and what His kingdom looks like!
ASSIGNMENT:
Before moving on to the next module, choose a family member or friend and share this story with them from John 13 and then wash their feet. Yes, you read
that right, your assignment is to actually share this story with someone and actually wash their feet as Jesus modeled.
After washing their feet, think about what lessons can be learned from this experience. Jesus, the creator of the universe and Savior of the world, did not use
His power to demand others wash His feet but instead washed his followers’ feet.
What does this teach us about how a teacher should use their influence and power not to be served but to serve their students. Think about the power of this
full sensory lesson that Jesus taught. It is a 100% guarantee that his disciples never forgot this night’s lessons and their lives were never the same!
After doing this assignment, write a reflection paper about your experience doing the assignment.
Assignment:
Choose a family member or friend and share this story with them from John 13
and then wash their feet using a bowl of water and a towel.
Reflection Paper: The 250+ Word paper will include:

  1. Briefly share whose feet you washed and their reaction.
  2. What did you personally experience and learn in this act?
  3. How does this act and Jesus’ teaching style, in general, inspire you to approach your future classroom as a transformational teacher? Choose very specific
ways you can emulate what Jesus models

7 Principles of Movements

At the following site, you can see 7 principles of gospel movements:
https://2414now.net/movement-basics/
There is a lot to be learned about being an effective and impactful teacher from this list of principles. Learn about them and think about them in the context
of teaching any subject and impacting students in general.
To help you understand the principles of disciple-making movements like what you have read about in the book of Acts, and to help you apply them to your
teaching career, work through the following three steps:

  1. Rewrite each of the 7 principles of movements from the website above in your own words and briefly explain the basic concept of each.
  2. Next write how this is different than what you have seen modeled by most churches or ministries that you have seen.
  3. Finally, which 2 of the 7 principles do you think are most important and transferable for teachers of any kind to keep in mind? In other words, which of these principles can apply to your classroom and help you be more effective as a math, science, special needs, reading…etc. teacher?

Americans taught what really took place

Most Americans have not been taught what really took place. Eric Foner [and W.E.B. DuBois] have reframed this period of history. This attempt to change the focus of race in the United States continues today. The Civil War amendments 13, 14 15 were ratifies to shift power to Congress and calls it to protect peoples’ rights even from Stata laws.
1. What struck you in the presentation? What did you learn?
