Maximizing Employee and Team Effectiveness in Healthcare Organizations

As a hospital administrator, you have been tasked to increase the effectiveness of your organization through better use of your employees, both individually and in teams. Now you and your colleagues will present your research to your hospital board. This presentation will allow you to consider a team building approach and analyze the roles that individuals and teams play in organizations.

Preparing for the Assessment
Research employee and team development examples and approaches. Reputable references include trade or industry publications, government or agency websites, scholarly works, or other sources of similar quality.

Assessment Deliverable
Create an 8- to 12-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation with detailed speaker notes or a voice-over presentation using PowerPoint in which you:

Explain the responsibilities of an individual and a team within an organization.
Compare how individuals and teams can be used effectively in an organization.
Describe the 5 phases of group development.
Explain strategies a company can implement to build and maintain individual and team performance (e.g., individual motivation and team accolades).

Observation stay at the hospital

Mrs. P. is an 80-year-old woman recently discharged from a 24-hour observation stay at the hospital after being diagnosed with acute bronchitis. She has a history of heart failure, hypertension, osteoarthritis, GERD, and hyperlipidemia. She has no history of smoking. While in the hospital she was prescribed doxycycline, prednisone 15 mg to taper, and a tiotropium inhaler. Her current list of daily medications prior to hospitalization includes metoprolol succinate 12.5 mg, pantoprazole 40 mg, atorvastatin 10 mg, lisinopril 10 mg, furosemide 40 mg, potassium chloride 20 meq bid, acetaminophen 650 mg bid for pain and tramadol 25 mg as needed. She lives alone but will reside temporarily with her daughter while she recovers. Her discharge report indicated resolving bronchitis, no exacerbation of heart failure, and stable arthritic pain. Today she reports 1 week after discharge with her daughter for a primary care appointment, and they both were concerned about the number of medications she was prescribed and wanted her medications reviewed. In further review, she was found to have lost weight over the past 6 months of 5 lbs and her current BMI is 25. She states that the weight loss may be due to a change to a healthier diet and reducing sodium as instructed. She also reports no symptoms of GERD for the past 6 months and minimal arthritic pain because of regular use of acetaminophen and daily walking in the halls of her independent living facility. Upon examination her lungs are clear to auscultation and no evidence of lower extremity edema.
• Discuss the following:
• 1) In reviewing her medication list and current symptoms and clinical signs, which
medication could the nurse practitioner consider de-prescribing.
• 2) Once the patient has completed the prednisone taper, which medication could the nurse
practitioner begin to reduce given the patient’s reported symptoms.
• 3) Given the absence of an exacerbation of heart failure and compliance with a reduced
sodium diet, what other medication(s) adjustments could the nurse practitioner consider at this time.

Contemporary Public Health Issue

Although the United States is among the wealthiest nations in the world, it is far from being the healthiest. Life expectancy and survival rates in the United States have improved dramatically over the past century, but Americans have shorter lifespans and experience more illness than people in other high-income countries. This assignment gives you an opportunity to put together what you have learned in this course, including, but not limited to:
public health policy, policymaking process, and law;
public health and the legal system;
individual and human rights in public health; and
social justice, ethics and public health policy.
Choose a contemporary public health issue (e.g., bioterrorism, gun violence, or natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires), its impact on public health, and strategies for mitigating and managing it once the issue occurs.
Following APA guidelines, create a PowerPoint presentation of 17-20 slides (plus title and reference slides) on the contemporary public health issue you have chosen and a human rights ethical dilemma. You will present this work to a team of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials tasked with developing global policies for addressing the impact of contemporary public health issues around the world.
Your presentation should assess:
The human rights concerns associated with the selected issues in public health policy,
The conflicts of interest between public health policies and your selected emerging public health issue, and
The gaps in the current health law that apply to the contemporary public health concern you selected with recommended suitable policy interventions to address the selected contemporary public health issue.
A relevant policy evaluation model you can employ to determine the best possible policy solution to the human rights concern.
Your assignment must be supported with evidence from three to five peer-reviewed references, two of which must be from the CSU Online Library and no more than five years old.

Ethics Of Public Health Partnerships

You are a nurse in an inner city hospital dealing with minorities, especially a large population of immigrants from Asia, Europe, and South America. Your administrator is emphatic about the need to be sensitive to alternate life styles, especially TQI persons. Most of your patients have cultural difficulties with such individuals, treating them as “dead” and rejecting them from participation in their family lives.

What do you do? What is the ethical approach in this situation? How do you treat the community knowing that taking sides will have repercussions and limit your ability to interact with others in the community and, possibly, treat other individuals in the community.

Thinking in Systems

Read Donella Meadow’s “Thinking in Systems,” Chapter 3, 4 and 5 Talk a little about your learning behavior, using examples from your life or from Donella Meadow’s text. Have you ever been in the position of her hypothetical car dealer from Chapter 2, performing functions that “felt right” but produced negative results? How did you correct the problem? Use the wide array of vocabulary that this book offers, specifically at least one of the following keywords: Resilience, Self-Organization, and Hierarchy.

Maternal or child mortality

“One of the most obvious lessons in public health history is that knowledge of disease prevention doesn’t necessarily lead to its control or elimination”
Reflect on this quote. Then choose a topic related to maternal or child morality. What intervention besides education and knowledge is helpful in adressing the topic you choose?
Use an evidence based source to support your response.
