Three Basic Parts of an Essay

1.
The introduction. The subject or topic is introduced.
Write a statement that will get the attention of the reader. A sentence about a
topic that is related to your essay may be included.

2. The body. Details of the main
ideas, topic, and information in the article are discussed in the body of your
essay.

Critical success factors in project management

Every project team has the same mission as an organization: to meet the needs of their customer within organizational constraints, whether those customers are internal or external. Gathering project requirements is essential in determining project needs and assessing appropriate project resources related to time, scheduling, and cost.

Identify the critical success factors in project management for identifying customer requirements and transferring those requirements into an understanding of what resources will be required for the project. You must be sure to list what needs to be considered when assessing customer requirements and why it is important for the project manager to have a clear definition of what the customer views as project success. Find and use one or more current events to support your narrative.

Project valuation methods

Choose three project valuation methods, and write an essay that explains each of the methods. Specifically, your essay should cover the following topics:

Include an introduction that explains the overall function of valuation methods in capital budgeting and why capital budgeting is so important.
Explain the benefits and drawbacks of each valuation method, and describe whether the method is more beneficial in analyzing for-profit or nonprofit organizations.
For each valuation method, give a scenario where the method chosen would be beneficial in making a decision between different projects. If additional valuation methods would be beneficial in making a decision between the projects, explain why.
Conclude with an analysis of the effects of inflation and healthcare trends and how these should be factored into capital budgeting decisions.

Project Management

Building on your work in previous Modules of the Portfolio Project Milestones and with a specific focus on your product project at the company you selected, develop the following subsections of your project:

subsections of your project:

Risk management – including analytical techniques used, risk breakdown structure; risk categories, probability, and impact matrix; risk categorization, and urgency assessment; risk register with a list of risks and potential responses; use of quantitative risk modeling through tornado diagram, decision tree diagram, or cost risk simulation results; and strategies for negative and positive risks.

Responsibilities of a project manager

Discover the various responsibilities of a project manager by organizing a project. See Chapter 19, sections 19.9 and Cases.

Apply project management tools and a PM outline type of your choice to structure and plan the project by defining, planning, and controlling. The project will be a continuation of how to improve the process you chose in Weeks 1 and 2.

Create a 10- to 12-slide PowerPoint (supported by Excel and Word as needed) presentation, with detailed speaker notes, that includes the following:

Project description
Project Management Charts (Critical Path, Gant Chart, etc.)
Improved Process Flow Chart from Week 1
Meeting cadence/rhythm and timing
Metrics to measure the project’s success
Financial and budgetary considerations
Description of the project reporting structure
Cite references to support your assignment.

Project Management

This course’s final project invites students to respond critically and creatively to the National Women’s Studies Association’s national conference theme from 2018: JUST IMAGINE. IMAGINING JUSTICE.

The conference was held in Atlanta, Georgia in November 2018. The NWSA Conference travels from city to city each year to host keynote speeches, scholars’ panels, book talks, art events, and teach-ins in different regions across North America. In recent years, the NWSA conference has been in Baltimore, Maryland in 2017, Montreal, Canada in 2016, San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2015, and will be in San Francisco, California in November of 2019.

The 2018 theme was unique in that beyond the usual scholarship in history and culture and focus on teaching issues related to women’s studies, the conference more directly engaged the role of art, media, and the imagination broadly in order to investigate the creative potential of looking forward to what could become the future of justice and more just human relations.

For your final project in this course: Create a single artistic representation of your vision for the future of justice, with at least some awareness of an intersectional and/or global perspective. You may create this artistic representation “old school” by drawing or collaging on a sheet of paper or poster board a vision of what justice in our world might look or sound like in the near or distant future or you may use various digital technologies to create a digital poster or flyer or GIF or you may create a short (no more than 2 minutes) multi-media piece such as a video or a podcast.

Whatever methods you use to express and represent your vision for the future of justice please remember that we all want to see and appreciate it, so save it in a universally readable file format such as PDF, JPG, MP3 or MP4.

You may not simply borrow an existing meme or other pre-made image and call it your own. The idea is that you have something unique and original to express, even simply (you are not being evaluated as an artist here but as a thinking, creative human which we all can be!).

For example, I absolutely love this GIF created by Libby VanderPloeg (maybe you’ve seen it in the last year as it has made the rounds); however, it would not respect her artistic property nor my own creative and critical vision to simply copy it, or copy it and add a caption or something like that. If I wanted to represent a vision of justice that expressed a similar sentiment, I could (old school) create a poster with construction paper or magazine clippings, or (new school) make a short video where a few friends and I show ourselves supporting each other and literally having each other’s back in turn.

The first step in completing this project would be to identify a concept or idea for the future of justice. This could include many common movements or cultural ideas such as:

“equal pay for equal work” (a kind of economic justice for women and men across class backgrounds), or
#metoo ideals of respecting the voices of sexual assault survivors (the original movement honored all ages and ethnicities and the founders have since made it clear men should be included, too), or
“families against mandatory minimums” (a prison reform movement that argues sentencing practices often impact women and ethnic minorities disproportionately), or
“there is no planet B” (a common phrase in recent environmental movements that often expresses how environmental justice = justice for everyone)
These are only sample concepts. Trust yourself and your vision for the future of justice, and try to enjoy and back yourself in creating something that doesn’t have to meet anyone else’s high artistic standards. Think of it as folk art or craft even if you find that helpful, and be willing to be surprised at what you are able to do.

Developing good projects and programs is planning.

One of the most important aspect of developing good projects and programs is planning.
Noted author Mark Twain hit it on the head when he said, “The Secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable ones then starting on the first one.”
Why is Planning Important? Give an example where you used planning and its importance. This can be in any area of life: home building/projects, school, work, etc. Include any sources you use to answer this question.

Project Plan Inception

You are currently the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for an innovative Internet-based company with gross revenues of more than $35 million dollars per year. During an executive leadership meeting, you were told that your company will be merging with a multinational company of equal size and you will be responsible for developing a project plan to strategically integrate all systems, including databases and infrastructure. The Chief Executive Officer has given you 60 days to deliver an information technology project plan in anticipation of the company merger. Your company will be expanding from one floor to three floors within six months.

Since this merger will be bringing two fairly equal-sized companies together under one roof, the infrastructure must be redesigned to accommodate the increased needs. Your company currently uses operational systems and relational databases but desires to expand into data warehousing. All information technology (hardware and software) must be redesigned to meet organizational needs. The solution should be implemented in either a hosted solution, on-site solution, or a hybrid model. The CEO is expecting you to integrate different technologies from different solution providers and incorporate industry best practices in connection with the development of technological systems. In addition, the CEO is extremely interested in cloud technologies and virtualization but is leery of security issues; however, the CEO is sure that you will implement proper security protocols. The company currently consists of twenty-five employees but is expected to increase to 65 employees when the merger is complete.

Instructions

Section 1: Project Introduction

Write a 4–6 page project introduction that documents the current state of the organization prior to any development or enhancements, takes into account all the information given above, and includes the following:

Background information of the company.

Smart Systems Project

Do research on the following topics:

1) Smart Cities

2) Smart Highways

Requirements

Write a 10-page Word document, double-spaced, detailing each system, its subsystems, and at least 25 requirements (total) and associated specifications for each of the Smart Systems.

Your paper should include multiple topic sections or paragraphs. Start with a section that describes the first Smart System, followed by individual sections for each of its Sub-Systems. Then add a section that describes the second Smart System, followed by individual sections for each of its Sub-Systems.

In your paper, provide the following:

An Introduction paragraph describing the assignment and a short description of the two systems selected.
A section that describes the Smart System (with an appropriate section Heading) and the basic specifications that drive the development of the Smart Systems.
What is its purpose?

What are its inputs (resources, interfaces, when used)?
What are its outputs (interfaces, data)?
How does the technology integrate within the system?
How important is the technology to the system?
The system’s complexity/cost/feasibility.
Any constraints or risks found during the research.
How the various technologies integrate to accomplish the system goals.
Conclude the section with any potential specifications and functionality that might be added in the future based on enhanced technology (this may come from your research or from other technologies like Augmented or Virtual Reality).

A section for each Sub-System (with an appropriate section Heading) that includes:
A description of that Sub-System.
Detailed functionality that drives the development of the Sub-System.
Conclude with any potential specifications and functionality that might be added in the future based on enhanced technology (this may come from your research or from other technologies like Augmented or Virtual Reality).
Your paper should conclude with a Findings section the compares the two systems. Provide the following:

What specifications/functionality are common to both Smart Systems.
What specifications/functionality from one Smart System or Sub-System should or could be applied to the other Smart System.
What potential specifications and functionality might be included in both systems.

An analysis of a project

Write a 750-1,000 word analysis in which you discuss the following:

Approximately one third of all IT projects fail. While there are numerous reasons, including funding, poor requirements, and lack of ROI, the main reason may be due to team dynamics and communication.

Provide a summary of the purpose of the project (company details not required).

Analyze how team dynamics contributed to the projected failure. Explain the methods the leader could employ with the team to increase success.

Analyze how team communication and conflict contributed to project failure. Explain the methods the leader could employ with the team to increase success.

Evaluate the importance of giving and receiving feedback in conflict situations. Provide examples of both the positive and negative outcomes of feedback communication from the project.

How can the organization utilize lessons learned to reduce future project risk?

Include at least three academic references for this assignment to support your analysis and reflection.
