Clinic Handout

Will you please create a one-two page Handout for our International Animal Rescue Clinic to give our employees for training, so they can help care for the animals?
We need to describe how the animals at our different locations respond physiologically to maintain homeostasis in their environments. Please choose from one of these animals that we treat:
Dog living with a family in Maine in winter (cold environment)
Atlantic bottlenose dolphin in Florida Keys (aquatic environment)
A cheetah in grasslands of South Africa (hot, arid environment)
The one-two page Handout will have three sections and must include the following:
Description of the animal and its typical habitat; physiological responses that the animal uses to adapt to maintain homeostasis in its typical habitat; physiological responses that the animal uses to adapt to maintain homeostasis in hot and cold conditions;
Describe how the neonatal animal (selected for your handout) responds physiologically to its environment to maintain homeostasis; examples to describe how the neonatal animal (selected for your handout) responds physiologically to hot and cold conditions to maintain homeostasis;
Report on a physiological response the animal uses for survival, using two peer-reviewed scientific sources and compare and contrast why the animal would or would not be able to survive in a different environment vs. its typical habitat, including details of the animals physiology for support.

Rate control versus rhythm control

Discuss rate control versus rhythm control for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). Define AF and its prevalence in the population. Briefly discuss some causes (mechanisms of arrythmia formation as discussed in lecture) and risk factors of AF and then compare and contrast the concepts of rate control versus rhythm control for treatment. Cite clinical trials research that discusses the efficacy of the two approaches. Give an example of a drug for each approach and then describe how that drug works (mechanism) to either achieve rate control or rhythm control.

HIV/AIDS Current events

HIV/AIDS Current events that is an emerging or reemerging concern to you or people in your area. Provide local epidemiological data for the disease in the State of GEORGIA.
Introduction to the disease and the organ system (history, signs, symptoms, epidemiology etc.)
Discussion of the normal anatomy and physiology of the organ system involved (cell and tissue populations involved, organs, primary functions, connections to other body systems)
Discussion of the changes to the anatomy and physiology as a result of the disease (pathophysiology)
Discussion of treatment/prevention options
3 primary and at least 2 secondary scholarly sources

Kant’s famous First Formulation of the Categorical Imperative

Kant’s famous First Formulation of the Categorical Imperative reads, “Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law.” Kant taught morality as a matter of following maxims of living that reflect absolute laws. “Universal” is a term that allows for no exceptions, and what is universal applies always and everywhere. Don’t forget about the second formulation of the categorical imperative which states, “Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means.” It is just as important.

For the initial post, address one of the following sets of questions:

What are the personal and/or communal ethical factors that may be involved in determining the moral position of either side given a contemporary debate, such as those concerning animal rights, stem cell research, abortion, the death penalty, and so forth?
Elaborate in detail the ethical positions arrived at by using the Kantian categorical imperative relative to the long standing debate surrounding the death penalty or abortion. Argue the ethics from the point of view of the prisoner or from the fetus
Evaluate the ethical positions in part two. You will want to detail whether they are convincing, logical, correct, consistent, etc.

Significant Object Analysis Worksheet

A significant object is something made by a human. Another term for a significant object is an artifact. It can be something of historical significance or it can be something created today by a family member or your favorite performer. It can be any form of art or self-expression that has meaning to you. It can be anything that a human conceived of as art and deliberately crafted such as the Lascaux cave paintings.
For this assignment, you are asked to identify and analyze a significant object.
OBSERVE: Share your significant object or a link to your significant object in the space below.
Include a description of the object and research on its background. For example, information about the creator, or artist. What was happening in the world or in your life when this was made? Build on your main discussion post from this week. (150-200 words)
*** Make sure to cite your sources by including a list of any outside sources of information you are using. Remember, research is always a good thing as it shows curiosity. Apply what you have learned about academic integrity by giving credit where credit is due.
PROCESS: What does this significant object mean to you? Please explain. (150-200 words)
How has it inspired or moved you? Has it helped make your life or the life of others better? How does it connect to your life or to the educational journey you are starting along with your classmates?
ANALYZE: During this week’s discussion, you viewed several objects significant to your classmates.
How does your object compare with your classmates’ choices? How do you think your significant object communicates your life perspective to the class? What story, or small bit of story, does it tell about you? (150-200 words)
