Exploring the Interplay Between Reflexology, Massage Therapy, and Manual Therapies

Massage and other touch therapies are probably some of the most recognizable and utilized CAM treatments used in contemporary society.

Considering the above statement and your understanding on the basis of your readings this week, answer the following questions:

Compare and contrast between reflexology and massage techniques.
Although reflexology and massage are distinct healing modalities, how is reflexology similar in principle to massage?
Does mainstream medicine fully accept all of reflexology’s tenets when contrasted with the current views of anatomy? Why or why not?
Has reflexology been demonstrated to facilitate the healing process and provide relief to those suffering from anxiety and pain? If so, what mechanisms can be identified?
How much of a role does the mere presence of human contact play in the effectiveness of manual therapies in your review of this topic?
How do you think are osteopathy and chiropractic similar in the way they evolved and used in the later part of the nineteenth century?
Why did the osteopathic and chiropractic professions evolve so differently?
In this day and age, would you describe osteopathy as more alternative or conventional? Explain.
In this day and age, would you describe chiropractic as more alternative or conventional? Explain.

Ethical, Moral, and Legal Attitudes in Nursing

In their daily work, nurses continually deal with human, intimate and transcendental situations, ranging from the process of celebrating a birth to the difficult coping with pain, loss and death. Events where the nurse must decide the morality of his or her own actions when facing ethical, moral, legal and spiritual situations in the performance of nursing care. Due to the particular helping relationship between the nurse and the patient, this professional agrees on the support and defense of the patient and family who are faced with making difficult decisions about health, for which they are not necessarily prepared. From there, we must ask ourselves what are the ethical, moral and legal attitudes and behaviors expected of a professional nurse? What influence do our own moral values, attitudes and behaviors have on making ethical decisions as a professional? And what is my role as a nurse patient advocate?

Ethical and Policy Issues in Care Coordination

Scenario

Your nurse manager at the community care center is well connected and frequently speaks to a variety of community organizations and groups. She has noticed the good work you are doing in your new care coordination role and respects your speaking and presentation skills. Consequently, she thought that an opportunity to speak publicly about contemporary issues in care coordination would be beneficial for your career and has suggested reaching out to a community organization or support group to gauge their interest in hearing from you, as a care center representative, on a topic of interest to both you and your prospective audience. You have agreed that this is a good idea and have decided to research a community organization or support group that might be interested in learning about ethical and policy issues related to the coordination of care.

To prepare for this assessment, you may wish to:

Research your selected community organization or support group.
Review the Code of Ethics for Nurses With Interpretive Statements and associated health policy issues, specifically, the ACA.
Review the assessment instructions and scoring guide to ensure you understand the work you will be asked to complete.
Allocate sufficient time to rehearse your presentation before recording the final version for submission.
