The general understanding of “country music.”

Write a brief, original, research paper that includes a modest proportion of critical analysis; no paper will receive an “A” without originality and critical analysis.
In MUSIC 117 we examine a variety of styles that are identified under the general understanding of “country music.” In your final written assignment you are to examine one song that fits your own criteria of “country music” and provide the following:
1. A brief background of the song and its artist, e.g. date of release, album, artist’s bio (very brief)
2. An in-depth analysis of the song’s musical features (melody, harmony, rhythm, form, texture, instrumentation, dynamics)
3. What features make this song distinctively “country” and, most importantly, why?
. If you want to quote the words or use ideas from someone else, you MUST cite your reference and credit the originator of the ideas.

After the death of Philip II, Victoria still followed the Empress for 17 years. When she died in 1603 Victoria wrote his Requiem Mass for the royal funeral. Victoria published his last work, the “Officium defunctorum” in 1605, where this mass was a part of with addition of ceremony music before and after.

After viewing the concert excerpts, construct a paper comparing the two concerts. The paper should include the following:

1: An introduction providing an overview of the main points of the paper. The introduction should mention both concerts.

2: Describe the music performed at each concert. Be sure to discuss specific musical attributes of the concerts, such as melody, harmony, timbre, texture, rhythm and form.

4: Evaluate similarities and differences between music in the Classical era and rock/pop music. This section should reflect knowledge and understanding of the information presented about Classical music in the course reading. Be sure to address specific attributes of your chosen Classical composition.

5: Discuss the types of people who attended concerts in the Classical era and those who attend rock or pop concerts today, and why people attended concerts in the Classical era versus today. (Be certain to use specific information from scholarly sources to support your points about the types of people who attended concerts during the Classical era.)

6: Analyze how new technologies, such as digital media and the internet, change the ways music is experienced.

7: A conclusion wrapping up the main points of the presentation. The conclusion should mention both concerts.

8: A reference page citing the sources used in the paper. The reference page should reference both concerts and the sources used in the paper. Please note that any source listed in the reference section needs to be cited in at least one of the previous paragraphs in the paper. Artist Profile Outline Due

Pretend you’re the professor, and you need to prepare an outline for a lecture you’re giving on a particular musical group or artist. Choose one artist or group from the 1990’s and write a MLA-style outline describing that artist/group’s most important accomplishments, contributions to popular music, and the salient musical characteristics of their music. The artist you choose can be anyone that was popular in the 1990’s from Nirvana to Dr. Dre to Mariah Carey to Alanis Morrisette to Lauryn Hill, just to name a few. You might want to choose an artist that you’ve always wanted to know more about, or maybe your favorite artist came to prominence in the 1990’s and this is your chance to write a short biography of that artist. You must choose a different artist or group than what you wrote about in your research paper, and it must be an artist who came to prominence in the 1990s.
The artist profile outline MUST contain the following information:
Pertinent biographical and background information on the artist/group
The artist/group’s musical influences
The artist/group’s musical evolution
The artist/group’s career milestones
The artist/group’s most significant contribution to popular music
Musical characteristics that make the artist unique
Youtube video link to a significant song by the artist/group
When researching the assignment, you may want to start with the textbook, and then supplement with reliable information from the Internet. The assignment should be 1-2 pages in length.
