Media as a Site of Joy, Pleasure, Connection, and Community

Describe Media can serve as a site of joy, pleasure, connection, or community, even while also producing inequalities.
I chose Media – The following institutions are
The family
Media
Medicine and Healthcare
The State and the Justice System
To conclude this module, I am asking you to choose one of the social institutions discussed in this chapter and describe how this institution can serve as a site of joy, pleasure, connection, or community, even while also producing inequalities.
You will compose a 2 page paper describing how your chosen social institution serves as a positive space and how this relates to the various identities and ideologies which inform that space. You should not avoid the more negative or unequal aspects of your chosen institution but rather discuss how they are happening alongside the positive aspects. You should be specific, so either discuss your own personal experiences in your chosen institution or do a small amount of research about an actual real-life example beyond your experience. For example, you might write about your own family, a specific magazine, or a specific healthcare clinic. You might write about your own work if it intersects with one of these institutions or your own personal experiences in your private life.

Media Influences on Gender Role

Media Influences on Gender Role

The media plays a significant role in shaping our perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors. One area where media has a profound impact is in the portrayal of gender roles. From movies and TV shows to advertisements and social media, media platforms often perpetuate certain stereotypes and expectations related to gender.

Please address the following questions to discuss:

Can you think of any specific examples from popular culture where gender roles are reinforced or challenged? How do these portrayals impact societal norms?
Can media be a tool for challenging and breaking gender stereotypes? Share any examples you can think of where media has been successful in promoting more diverse and inclusive representations of gender.

Media and Stereotypes

Use an example of media that you are familiar with – a television show, a film, a series of news stories – and compare it with the Ross reading on media stereotypes. Using specific examples, write at least a 500-word response critiquing to what extent the media example you’re using reinforces or challenges some of these stereotypes.

Reputable local and national media in the U.S. for a man-made

  • We will be looking at local or national response protocols that were initiated during a critical incident, and you will choose your topic!
  • Search reputable local and national media in the U.S. for a man-made disaster to discuss.
  • Search for critical instances such as hostage situations, mass shootings, and multiple-vehicle or mass transit accidents with multiple critical injuries and disease outbreaks.
  • Describe the incident and address the following:

Determine the incident type and explain your reasoning.
What resources were deployed for this incident?
What protocols were implemented successfully, and which were unsuccessful?
Discuss ways to improve the response to this type of incident in the future.

  • Support your answer with evidence. Please provide a working link to your story source.

Media helps to contribute to crime

Do you believe that the media helps to contribute to crime? Rationalize your answer and provide examples to justify your stance.
How can the media be used to help solve crimes? Does this help compensate for the harm they contribute to the Criminal Justice system? Why or why not?
Discuss a recent anticrime Public Service Announcement in terms of its target audience, the problem it addresses, its use of fear, the behaviors it strives to encourage or discourage, and how effective it is perceived to be.
Discuss where and when surveillance cameras are acceptable and if it should matter if they are hidden or openly displayed. Discuss the phemonmenon of a surveillance effect and whether people should be informed that they are within the view of a surveillance system.
Discuss why bad news about corrections is more newsworthy than good news and what, if anything, correctional personnel can do to change the public image of corrections. Discuss who is most responsible for the content and nature of news about corrections: correctional personnel, administration, journalists, news agency administrators, or the public?

Organizational Behavior in the media

You should pay attention to the current media during this class (by media I mean popular press such as newspapers, magazines, film, etc.). For this assignment you should write one brief (1 Page or less) summary of an interesting and noteworthy example of organizational behavior in the media. We cover a few different topics and your selection can apply to any of them. Your writeup should describe the facts about the media example you are highlighting AND what makes it noteworthy. Alternatively, you can turn in a video clip from a movie or show that depicts a unique aspect on organizational behavior and write about that.

Journaling provides a valuable tool for recording, reflecting on, and reviewing your learning

Journaling provides a valuable tool for recording, reflecting on, and reviewing your learning. This approach provides an opportunity for you to “connect the dots” and observe the relationships between and among activities, interactions, and outcomes.
Unlike a personal journal of thoughts and feelings, this leadership journal is a record of your activities, assessments, and learning related to this academic experience.
Journal entries should include a record of the number of hours spent with your nurse leader each week.
Write a journal entry of 750-1,500 words on the subject of provision, including the following:
Practicum Activities Reflection: Provide observations and thoughts on the activities in your practicum during Weeks 8 & 9.
Application of Leadership: Describe how your nurse leader/preceptor uses quality improvement indicators in their leadership role. How does this impact patient outcomes? What impact does this have on the organization?
Practicum Project Preparation: Describe any potential and/or actual barriers you have encountered as you prepared for project implementation. If you have not encountered any, what could present a barrier in the future? How do you plan to approach and overcome or handle these barriers?
Leadership Video Reflection: Reflect on at least two things you learned from the “Servant Leadership – Issue of Headship” video.

Psychology And Mass Media

Discuss an advertising campaign that used violent imagery or sexual content. You may use the campaign you selected to analyze, or choose a new campaign.
Are there violent images or sexual content associated with the product? If so, what are they?
Is it overt or subtle in its tone? What is the anticipated reaction to the use of such content and images in advertising?
What does the academic literature on violent and sexual content in mass media suggest are the impacts of such content on individuals?
Provide at least 2 scholarly resources to support your answer.
