There are a plethora of leadership styles that can be utilized in the criminal justice system. Objectively assess what kind of leadership style you feel would be the most effective as an administrator in your organization. Expound on possible advantages and disadvantages of that particular style.

Reflect on your practicum and summarize your experience in relation to these seven principles. Discuss strategies you could use to integrate these principles into a leadership role.

Elizabeth and Derek, a White U.S. American couple, decide to host German students as part of a one-month program with the local university. Veronica and Julie, the students from Germany, enjoy their stay, but they are not as fond of the food, and at one point directly ask the couple to prepare food with less fat. The request comes on top of Elizabeth and Derek already having had stressful days at work and feeling inadequate about not spending the time hosting that they should. The request might not be unusual in Germany, because directness is valued; however, Elizabeth and Derek perceive it as rude. In the end, they do not have a good time hosting the Germans, who are more direct and independent than they would like. But this does not surprise them—they already expected that Germans would be “rude”, based on what they saw in the media.

You’ve been associated with an outpatient cardiology clinic that is part of a large academic medical center. Your patients are mostly charity care and managed Medicaid. Most have a prescription plan, but none have a “family doctor” and use the clinic (and the ED) regularly. Most are unfamiliar with their medications and do not have the resources for care coordination in their family/social network. About 25 CHF patients have been “lovingly,” but inappropriately, called “frequent fliers” because of their inability to manage their own care, their frequent visits to the ED, and their “one night stays” paid at the observation rate. As a staff nurse in this clinic, describe the strategies you could devise for you and your fellow staff nurses targeting these 25 patients.
