Characteristics of Transformational Leadership
Review the characteristics of transformational leadership (Exhibit 8-6), adaptive leadership, and servant leadership (Exhibit 8-9). Which characteristics apply to Kenny?
Sense of patriotism
There is often a drive for consumers of a country to buy only from that country out of a sense of patriotism. How would the world be different if companies also took a policy only to sell, bank, and invest in their own countries?
View people of different cultures or identities
What implications might represent how we view people of different cultures or identities? Is there any conceptual difference in having biased representation – or no representation at all – in a news show as opposed to a reality television show or a crime drama or comedy show?
Self-Leadership & Emotional Intelligence
Self-leadership is related to emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence according to Neck, Manz and Houghton (2017) “involves the ability to perceive, understand, and regulate our own or another person’s emotions” and emotionally intelligent people can “recognize and use his or her own and others’ emotional states to solve problems and regulate behavior.” Having confidence in our ability to self-lead our emotions can be a critical part of our effectiveness.

Compare and contrast three leadership styles you have learned. Based on what you have learned, what do you believe is your preferred leadership style? Why? How will you apply that preferred leadership style now or in your future position(s)?
Self-Leadership & Social Responsibility at Work
Mental images of greedy managers operating from lavish executive suites, misusing power to manipulate organizations (and the people that work for them and depend on them) for personal gain, can be discouraging. Each of us has a choice in terms of our own self-leadership stance concerning ethical behavior and social responsibility. Enron is a great example of self-leadership and ethics.
First, read the following case study on Enron in the Journal of Leadership.
Now, write a paper comparing and contrasting the leadership of Enron with the non-management of Enron in light of self-leadership. How did Enron’s corporate culture promote unethical decisions and actions? What lessons have you personally learned from Enron whichwill mold your self-leadership?
