The Human Experience
This week we watched the film, “Human.” Although the experiences shared by the subjects of the film were
very individual and personal, their stories also reflected themes that are common to the more universal Human
Experience.
Please address the following prompts:
1. What individual stories caught your attention?
2. How do these stories reflect the universal Human Experiences while simultaneously remaining very
individual to the people who told them?
3. Be sure to include specific details from the film to support your main points.
4. Be sure to provide an MLA citation for each source you use (it’s possible you might only need one citation
for this discussion question). Click here for a refresher: How to Cite Your Work.

Augustine’s View of Human Nature

In Book I of Confessions, Augustine discusses his childhood where he refers to himself as “so tiny a child, so
great a sinner.”
Based on what you have learned from Lecture 1 on The Confessions, why did Augustine see himself that way?
Describe at least two of the examples that Augustine gives of his sinful behavior. Why does he see such
behavior as sinful and against God’s will?
What is your opinion of his view of human nature? Is it outmoded or still relevant?

Human value

According to your worldview, what value does a human person have? How does your position affect your stance on controversial bioethical issues, such as abortion, designer babies, and stem cell research?
