The Influence of Art on Personal and Professional Development

As we learned in Week 1, there is a difference between being educated and simply trained. The purpose of education is not only to determine what someone can do, but also what kind of person they become as a result of their education. Studies in the humanities will advance the communication skills, empathy, self-awareness, judgment, and professionalism of students, and they help students with becoming skilled at the social and cultural context of working with people.

In addition, studying the humanities can help students in the following ways:

Literature can introduce students to life situations with which they may not be familiar.
Drama can teach oral communication.
Philosophy can teach skills of analysis and argument.
Art, literature, drama. and music are expressions of human creativity, and taking part in some form of artistic activity, either as reader or viewer, is part of what makes us human.
For this assignment, choose a work of art that made an impression on you during this course. Then, address the following:

Include an image of or link to the work.
Identify the artist, the title, date completed, and the medium.
Explain how learning about the work will help you in your life and career. Consider the context in which the work was created and the meaning of the work.
Explain how one or more specific disciplines (literature, drama, philosophy, art, music) influenced you.
Examine the effect that you think this class could have on your career and personal life.

The Enduring Significance of Michelangelo’s David in Western Culture

Write an essay of 3-4 pages that analyzes the significance of one to three artifacts—a sculpture, fresco, painting, work of architecture, piece of literature, music—covered in this course. In selecting your topic and developing a claim about it, think about the topic’s value as an example of the specific cultural movement from which it originated and its relevance to Western culture and to the humanities in general. Along this line of thinking you may explain how a work of art, architecture, music, or sculpture is still copied to this day and make a direct comparison between the work and a modern work. You could then use the following example of a thesis statement as a template for your own:

The Artistic Connection Between Photography and Cinematography

Part 1: Art Creation
Select a photograph or film art piece to use as a point of inspiration. Create an art piece of photography or cinematography inspired by your selected art piece. Videos should be no longer than 5 minutes and must be in MP4 format.

Note: If your art creation requires a separate file submission, please submit in the Art Creation Submission (Recordings) area following this assignment.

Part 2: Reflection
Write a reflection about the relationship between your art production and the inspiration piece. Include the following in the reflection paper:

Introduction
Inspiration Piece
Include the inspiration photograph or cinematography within the document. Use a link in the case of cinematography.
Record the title, artist/director, year, and place of origin.
Briefly explain the background of the inspiration piece.
Your Art Piece
Include your original photograph within the document. If you selected cinematography, submit as a separate file in the Art Creation Submission (Recordings) area following this assignment.
Provide a title.
Explain the background of your piece.
Connection
Explain the thematic connection between the two pieces.
How are they similar and different?
Are they the same medium? How does the medium impact what the viewer experiences?
For photography, how do the formal elements of design compare to one another?

Understanding Technical Problems and Adaptive Challenges in Corporate Environments: A Case Study of Company X

Please watch the video linked and read the attachment:

Adaptive leadership distinguishes technical problems from adaptive challenges. Technical problems can be solved by expertise, knowledge and experience. Adaptive challenges can be solved through changes in people’s beliefs, habits and behaviors. Most problems are a mix of technical and adaptive challenges. Adaptive leadership strives to develop environments that allow employees to succeed. Adaptive changes build on the past, experiment with possibilities, rely on diverse innovation that is iterative, which takes time. People don’t resist change, they resist loss. There’s an illusion of a broken system—that an organization needs to change because it’s broken. In reality, a social system is the way it is because the staff wants it that way, at least at the present time. You will learn about designing effective interventions to move a system toward a new and improved equilibrium. In addition, you’ll understand what it takes to build a high-performance business culture.

Identify an organization (either you’re worked there or you’d like to, or you know of it) and define the technical problems and adaptive challenges.
What is corporate culture and why is it important?

Exploring the Evolution of Romantic Relationships Through Theoretical Frameworks

Romantic Relationships: How do romantic relationships begin and evolve? Read material in chapter 14 about various theories that have been advanced to explain the evolution of romantic relationships. Then reflect on your current and/or past romantic relationship(s) and use one or more of the theories as a framework in which to analyze your experience. Your analysis should address specific ways in which your life experience in romantic relationships is congruent with or is incongruent with the theory or theories that you have selected; provide examples. You may want to discuss how two or more theories complement one another to provide a fuller explanation of your experience.

Navigating a Major Decision through Post-Formal Thinking

Use of Post-Formal Thinking: Think about a predicament that you recently faced or a major decision that you have made in the last year or so. Describe your thought processes that were involved in solving the NUEL 250: Directions for Self-Reflection Essay (fall semester, 2023) predicament or making the decision. Do you think these processes would have been the same or different 8 or 10 years ago (or whenever you were an early to mid-adolescent)? Why or why not? Did your thinking about the predicament or decision involve any elements of what Labouvie called “post-formal” thought? Does Perry’s approach to post-formal thought seem to apply?

Exploring Body Image Development and Self-Perception

Body Image: Write about your body image when you were an adolescent. I suggest that early in your paper you define “body image” and make clear how body image is distinct from “body”. Discuss your body image (as you recall it now) during adolescence. What experiences do you believe contributed to your body image? In what ways did your experience of pubertal change correspond with the research discussed in the textbook? Did your experience seem incongruent with any of the research findings summarized by Feldman? If so, do you have any ideas about why your experience may have differed? Your discussion will be enriched if you incorporate theory and concepts that, although not specific to body image development, help to explain your experience. Has your body changed much since early adolescence?
Have your feelings about it changed? What kind of “relationship” have you had with food and dieting?
