A moral dilemma

Each person owes a duty to himself or herself and to the world to study ethics and to engage in thoughtful debate about what is right, and what is wrong. It is this habit of thinking about and reflecting on ethics that will help you determine the right choices when faced with an ethical dilemma.

Articulate a moral dilemma wherein one has to show a specific virtue or virtues (it can be any virtue or virtues including honesty, courage, charity/generosity, compassion, etc.)

What is the moral dilemma about?
What virtue or virtues should be shown? (You are here selecting the best course of action)
Why is that virtue or those virtues to be shown?
How should the virtue or virtues be expressed, and why in that manner?
Apply Aristotle’s golden mean to the dilemma.
Tell us how the dilemma involves conflict moral duties (loyalty to community versus to self, professional versus familial duties, national or personal obligations).
The dilemma must be a situation in which a choice has to be made.

As nurses we are all, no doubt, very aware of the myriad of legal and ethical issues in any health care setting. We are familiar with licensing for health care
professionals, perhaps carry our own malpractice insurance, and have been cautioned by our employing institutions to always follow policy and procedures.
Nursing education is no different; there are specific legal and ethical issues that are of concern to nurse educators. Some of the specific areas of which
nurses working in education need to be well aware include the following:
Faculty rights and responsibilities.
Student rights.
Clinical evaluation of students

NASW Code of Ethics

Former president of the American Association of Social Workers (now the NASW), Benjamin Youngdahl,
stated in his 1953 farewell address: “Is our function as social workers limited to the treatment of
pathologies, or do we have a positive or preventive function to perform as well?”
Please reflect on and respond to Youngdahl’s question, and support your position by invoking one core
value from the NASW Code of Ethics and one standard from the CSWE Educational Policy and
Accreditation Standards. I provide links to both documents in Module # 9.

Ethical Situations
Driving privileges of uncontrolled diabetics should be restricted to protect others on the road.
Nurse practitioners should report blood sugars that drop below or exceed specified limits to the DMV to protect public safety.

The Wiki assignment is a semester-long project that you will be doing throughout the semester to demonstrate your understanding of core concepts in the sociological study of race and ethnic relations.

For this assignment students are expected to demonstrate a thorough understanding of one of the core concepts from the class as well as how it relates to other core concepts that they will be learning about in the class. Students will create a wiki page that contains all of the following information:
