Rhetoric Visual

In a WORD document, freewrite a 1 full page rhetorical analysis of the pictures you selected. To that end, consider the following questions: Who might be
your intended audience (be specific)? What assumptions have you made about this audience? What kind of identify do you think you’re projecting to your
audience in these pictures? Do you notice any appeals to pathos (appeals to humor, sentimentality, nostalgia, jealousy, etc.)? Do you notice any appeals to
ethos (likes, comments, etc.)? How about appeals to logos (specific, descriiptive details in your pic that proves the identity your portraying)?
Make sure to properly integrate and cite definitions for ethos, logos, and pathos (aka ethical appeals, logical appeals, and emotional appeals) the very first
time you mention each. Also, when you quote, make certain to use the strategies outlined in the readings assigned for homework to avoid plagiarism.
End your freewrite with a tentative thesis statement, which answers this question: Based on these pictures, what kind of identity do you think you’re
communicating / arguing to your intended audience, and how well do you think you’re using ethos, logos, and pathos appeals to make your point?
Remember- you are freewriting–there is no ‘right or wrong’–you are participating in the beginning stages of the writing process. Half baked ideas are
encouraged! Your first assignment is a rhetorical analysis of the identity you (intentionally or unintentionally) communicate to others. Select and analyze one
of the following for your essay (and you must choose only the most recent of the following): your Facebook statuses, Facebook photo albums, Facebook
profile information (interests, etc.), Instagram photos, Twitter posts, Twitter profile, blog. Or (if you don’t do social media) select and analyze pictures of your
favorite place, personal pictures you have on display where you live. P.S-Favorite place is New York

Food Assistance

In class, we discovered that the beef, pork, chicken, packaged seafood, and eggs industries are currently
involved in antitrust litigation for alleged price fixing. Price fixing is understood to be an agreement by
would-be competitors to restrict supply in order to elevate prices above their competitive level. The
White House claims that concentration in meat industries has led to higher consumer prices and other
bad labor and safety practices in these industries. This briefing by the White House details the degree of
concentration in meat industries and the negative impacts of concentration.
One possible remedy to the concentration issue is to break up large meat producers. This strategy has
precedent as the U.S. government has forced Standard Oil to breakup in 1911 and forced AT&T to split
into several regional telephone providers in 1982. However, splitting up existing companies is a blunt
strategy that may have negative consequences in the form of loss of efficiency, waste, and decreases in
payrolls. Please draft a policy brief detailing the state of concentration in the meat industry, the
economic consequences (positive or negative of concentration), and what options are available to
address the concentrated market.
Explain how splitting up the largest companies will affect market concentration and the market
equilibrium (e.g. price of food and the quantity of food). Identify which groups gain, which groups lose,
and for which groups (if any) the impact is ambiguous.
You are required to seek out at least two additional references to inform your policy brief. You must
reference information from the reading (plus your two references) in your policy brief or you will
have an automatic deduction of one letter grade.
Please address the following issues in your policy brief:
• Clearly explain the current state of market concentration. What are the positive impacts (if any)
and what are the negative impacts (if any) of a concentrated market.
• Clearly describe how the splitting up the largest companies will change concentration and the
equilibrium in the market. That is, describe what will happen to quantity, what will happen to the
price.
• Identify the winners and losers of this policy. Who will benefit, who will be harmed?
• What will the societal consequences be of breaking up the meat industry?
• Provide YOUR OPINION as to whether the meat industry should be or should NOT be broken up.
Explain why and justify your reasoning. There is no correct or incorrect opinion, only well-justified
or poorly-justified opinions.
Your market power policy briefing should be written in essay format and should include a brief introduction and conclusion.

Case Study: Heart

Janet was the tallest person in her family. Her brother used to joke with her and tell her she could play Abraham Lincoln in any play because she was tall and
lanky just like good old Abe.
Janet was the star center on her high school basketball team. She had always been tall with big hands and long fingers, perfect for snagging the ball on
rebounds. Recently, Janet had begun wearing contact lenses because she was having trouble seeing the hoop clearly. The optometrist had diagnosed her
with nearsightedness, something that her parents also experienced.
Recently, while practicing basketball with her high school team, Janet experienced some pain in her chest. She mentioned this to her coach, but since it was
the beginning of the season and they had recently started practicing, the coach assumed that she had pulled or overworked a muscle. The coach suggested
that she take some Tylenol and apply ice to her chest to relieve the pain.
Five minutes in to their first game of the season, Janet experienced dizziness and motioned for the coach to take her out. As she walked to the bench, she
lost consciousness and passed out. The referees couldn’t feel a pulse and started CPR while waiting for the paramedics and ambulance to arrive.
When Janet came to, she was in a hospital bed in CCU of the local hospital. The doctors advised her that she likely had a disease called Marfan’s syndrome.
As a result of that disease she had experienced cardiac arrest and that she had a mitral valve prolapse.
Deliverables
Answer the following questions and save your responses in a Microsoft Word document. Provide a scholarly resource to support your answers.
What are the four valves found in the heart and where are they located? Give all names for each valve.
What is a mitral valve prolapse and what causes this in Marfan’s syndrome specifically?
What happens to blood flow (specifically) with a mitral valve prolapse (where would the blood back up to and why)?
If a person were to have a prolapse of the tricuspid valve, what specifically would happen to the flow of blood in that case?
Do you think Janet will ever play basketball again? Why or why not?

Student Affairs Structure
The variety of transitions that an individual may face between the ages of 18 and 25 is diverse and includes marriage, parenting, relationship issues, and occupational choices, among many others. For those who choose to attend college, some additional choices and transitions may be encountered along the way. How well these challenges and developmental milestones are managed can influence whether a student is successful in earning an academic degree (Killiam & Degges-White, 2017, pp. 2-3).
Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper that discusses ways a student affairs professional might provide safety, structure, and guidance to students in disequilibrium.
Use a minimum of 3 psychosocial and identity theoretical frameworks to justify your assertions within the context of your paper.
Support your major points with primary sources, including germinal texts and journal articles.
