Theme for English B

First, review the slideshow about literary elements. Then, read “Theme for English B” by Langston Hughes. Please also read the short biography about
Hughes and the article about the Harlem Renaissance.
After reading these materials, write about the poem. Consider the following questions:
How does the Harlem Renaissance feature in this poem? What is Hughes concern about the assignment he is being given by his white teacher? The college
“on the hill above Harlem” is Columbia University, an Ivy League school; what do you know about Columbia and the Ivy Leagues? How many non-white
students do you think attended these schools in the 1920s, when Hughes was a student? How does this affect the way his teacher might see him?
This poem is about the Columbia University equivalent of English 102 (English B, the second semester of freshmen English). As we begin our semester
together, what would you like me to know about you?

I chose this university because their are only two schools that I have found to elite in this field and this school is my top choice.
I know I need to find as much experience in the field but eventually I would love to make a difference one on one. I know there are not a lot of male social workers in the industry Yet I know of two men that have helped and made a difference in my life. I am truly inspired and want to help others the same.

  1. What led you to choose social work as your profession? Which aspects of our educational program led you to apply to this university’s School of Social work? What will you bring to the MSW Program, to the needs of Social Policy & Practice, and to the social work profession? Briefly describe your
Income inequality is a problem because not every child or adult has resources to assist with many needs including mental health needs. This one area allowing equal access to all would be imperative in making a difference.

I will figure out a solution to form unique relationships with larger hospitals and programs to provide support to all. We all need to come together to make this happen. I know learning at your institution could give me the best opportunity possible to make this happen. Maybe it will be in one community, however that one community may form a winning pattern or solution.
