The purpose of Chapter 8 is to provide an overview of qualitative inquiry. The chapter presents common types of qualitative research as well as common types of qualitative data collection. It is our intention that after reading this chapter, you will have a clear understanding of what qualitative research is and what is involved in turning out credible and dependable results through careful, detailed qualitative inquiry. With these points in mind, read and review a peer-reviewed study of qualitative inquiry on a clinical topic of your choice. Review the article to clearly identify the specific clinical question or problem and to answer the five questions listed below.  Your goal is to assess, ask, acquire, appraise, and apply evidence to determine if the stated clinical question or problem was answered. The following are the five questions to be answered in your critique:

Does the Introduction section of the paper identify a problem or question in need of study?
Does the Methods section of the paper permit the reader to replicate the study completely?
Does the Results section of the paper provide answers to the question or questions posed in the Introduction section of the paper?
Does the Discussion section of the paper put the results in perspective and offer one or more conclusions based on data observed?
Based on the research evidence, is there any apparent ethical dilemma surrounding this clinical topic or study? If so, use supportive references from professional ethics or a code of conduct relevant to the profession to link/relate the ethical dilemma and to validate your perspective.

The Ethical Dilemma of Assigned Duties in Dental Practices: Empowering Staff and Ensuring Patient Safety

You work in what you consider a prestigious practice. The office is modern, there is a large staff, and the dentists in the practice appear to be financially sound, but you are concerned about the assignment of duties. Routinely, the dentists assign some of the clinical staff duties for which you do not feel qualified or you have not had previous training or experience.

You have asked the doctors if this is okay for them to do, and they always confirm that they can assign the staff anything to do as long as the assignment is by a licensed dentist.

You are concerned. What can you do? What is the consequence of these assignments by the dentist or for the assistant who may perform the assigned task?

After viewing this attached video, please write a 1 page response paper and let me know in your opinion what are the ethical, legal, and moral implications here? The dentist implicated was sentenced to 12 years in prison for this and related issues including fraud and improper sedation practices. What are your thoughts on this sentencing (too short? too long?)
