Database

Database Scenario:

Jack from the local hardware store, Main Street Hardware, has come to you requesting your database development services. He needs a database that will store product inventory, including products on hand as well as the vendors from whom he purchases these products. He also wants to track sales. He describes the business functions as follows.

Customers purchase products creating invoices.
Products are purchased from vendors.
The product on hand is tracked so that proper ordering from the vendor can take place in a timely manner.
Business Rules:

A customer creates zero or many invoices and zero or many invoices are created by one and only one customer.
Many products are associated with zero or many invoices.
Zero or many invoices are associated with many products.
A vendor sells one or many products and many or zero products are sold by one and only one vendor.

Instructions
Database Design: Create the ER diagram using MS Visio. Be sure to include table names, primary /foreign key fields, attributes, relationships, crow’s feet notation, and minimum/maximum cardinalities.
Database Application: Create the matching Access database using the ER diagram that you just created. Be sure to include table names, primary/foreign keys, attributes, field descriptions where applicable, and relationships setting referential integrity. Add at least 10 records to each table.
Create two queries. Make sure that each contains either a criterion to refine the search data or a function that computes a value. Be sure to name these queries with a descriptive name as well.
Uniqueness: In one of your queries you must add a field that shows the current date along with your StudentID. Enter the following into the last field in one of your queries: Uniqueness: Now() & ” STUNAM1234″ (where STUNAM1234 is your studentID).
Create one report based on one of your queries. You may choose the type of design.
Upload your Visio ER diagram (.vsdx) and Access database (.accdb) files for grading using the submission instructions below.

ELA performance data.

Secondary

You are a school principal in a 9-12 grade high school. In preparation for a meeting with your ELA department chair, Mr. Wong, you have been analyzing the students’ ELA performance data. Including Mr. Wong, your school has eight ELA teachers. For seven of the ELA teachers, 70% or more of their students are demonstrating good to exceptional outcomes on their writing benchmark data. Four of the teachers have historically yielded student scores with above average state standardized test results in comparison to schools in your district with similar demographics. In previous discussions, Mr. Wong has cited the teachers’ efforts to plan together utilizing the pacing guide, core program, and assessment results as the primary reasons for their students’ positive outcomes.

One teacher, however, Mr. Blumenstock, has been identified as an outlier by the district’s assessment coordinator, relative to the results of his students, compared to the other two teachers. Additionally, you have observed evidence that suggests Mr. Blumenstock is behind on the pacing guide compared to his colleagues. You also have anecdotal information that he does not engage with his teammates during scheduled content team meetings, which leads you to believe that he is not making an effort to plan with them outside the scheduled meetings.

In 750-1,000 words, analyze your chosen case using the three-part guiding questions below.

Part 1: Analyze the Case

Consider the following questions to begin analyzing the situation:

What do you consider the responsibility of the team lead/department chair in assisting the outlier teacher?
What stakeholders should be included in the conversation relative to next steps? Are these individual conversations or a group discussion or both?
What questions should be considered when making a determination about next steps?
Part 2: Identify the Larger Issues

Consider the following questions to analyze the contextual issues present in the situation:

What school or district policies might affect your decisions?
What additional information do you need as part of your decision-making process?
What are the potentially positive and negative outcomes of doing nothing?
What are the potentially positive and negative outcomes of taking action?
Part 3: Create an Action Plan

Use the following questions to guide you in describing what approach you will take to assist the team lead/department chair to help the outlier teacher, including 3-5 specific action steps:

What is your plan moving forward?
How does your plan sustain a culture of collaboration, trust, learning, and high expectations?
How will you include the critical stakeholders in the decision-making process?
What challenges do you anticipate?
How will you provide ongoing support to your team lead/department chair?
How will you evaluate the results of your teacher leader’s efforts?
What does the timeline look like?

The Klanton Bower Data Center is a commercial data

The Klanton Bower Data Center is a commercial data center specializing in small business IT services such as mass memory storage, email and enterprise systems servers, and website services. The data center, which has been in business for eight years, was started by the current owner, Klanton Bower, Ph.D., a data system specialist and research scientist. The data center also has four senior managers and several technicians and support staff who manage all the equipment and IT services infrastructure. Dr. Bower and the senior management have been researching next-generation equipment for a possible expansion of their services to meet current market demands and to prepare for future next-generation requirements of large enterprise software platforms.
As Dr. Bower and senior management review the capability of current infrastructure equipment and what is required to upgrade and expand to meet future demands, this is considered a large-scale expansion of their current operation and is viewed as a special project. Dr. Bower has asked senior management to outline what equipment would be needed, provide estimated delivery dates of equipment, and create an outline of the events required to accomplish this expansion project.
Senior management understand the importance of purchasing the correct equipment and, from a project standpoint, correctly managing installation and testing as well as the go-live to have as little impact on the data center operations as possible and have a seamless crossover so that current customers will not be affected. In the initial outlay of logistics, it has been determined that one piece of critical server equipment has a lead time twice as long as several of the other pieces of equipment, and that may pose a challenge in the installation and testing of all the equipment. Fortunately, this piece of equipment can be installed at a later date and be integrated and tested at that time. The second challenge is clearing enough space in the current data center for installation of the entire expansion infrastructure.
The primary components of this project include finalizing research and the equipment list; procuring all equipment and establishing delivery schedules; organizing and clearing the data center floor for the expansion of equipment; and sequencing all activities required for the installation, testing, verification, and go live cross-over to implement the new equipment.

Based on your previous readings and this week’s assigned readings, apply the concepts and principles to address the items below in respect to the case study (see the rubric below):

  1. Explain why it would be important that the project manager and project staff have detailed information on each work activity.
  2. What is the general purpose in defining responsibilities of those affiliated with the project?
  3. Why would you use a responsibility assignment matrix?
  4. Explain why authority on a project has to be defined and communicated with the project stakeholders and project staff.
  5. What is the value of Activity Definition?
  6. What is the value of Activity Sequencing?
  7. What is the value of Resource Estimating?
  8. What is the value of Activity Duration Estimating?
  9. What is the value of developing a Project Schedule?
  10. How would you use a Work Breakdown Structure in this case?
