As a manager, whether you’re a store, facilities, or a general manager in any type of environment, your teams work to meet the strategic direction of the organization. As strategic initiatives are adopted, you and your team may need to adapt to new directions. Change can be hard, and your team and your organization rely on your understanding of the organizational culture to support change.

In this assessment, you will use your experience and the organizational change chart you completed in Week 1 to assess the organization’s culture to improve alignment among the culture, mission, vision, values, and strategies using Kotter’s 8-step change management model. You provide your assessment including how proposed decisions for improvements align to the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategies to the leadership team.

Assessment Deliverable
Create a 7- to 10-slide presentation to the leadership of the organization you chose to explore in Week 1. Refer to your Organizational Change Chart from Week 1 and include the following:

Describe your assessment of the current culture within the organization at the time of your experience. Refer to the organizational change chart you completed in Week 1 to describe your assessment.
Develop a Change Management Plan using Kotter’s 8-Step model for the change goal you identified. Refer to the suggested actions for improvement you included in the Organizational Change Chart.
Determine the desired outcome as a result of the proposed change.
Analyze the alignment among the organization’s mission, vision, values, strategies, and the proposed Change Management Plan.

Part 1 of the “Pop Culture and Me” essay will ask you to begin thinking about your own relationship to popular culture. Use first person voice to articulate the significance of one form of pop cultural production that has shaped your identity today. Choose something that has greatly impacted your life in some way. This does not necessarily need to be your “favorite” thing (though it could be), but rather something that has helped shape your identity and worldview. The idea of this essay is to situate yourself as an active consumer of culture. A PDF of sample essays from students is posted to Canvas.

Below are some examples of forms of popular culture that you can you choose to engage in your essay:

• Festival or convention (i.e. music festival or comic book convention)

• Musician, music group, or band

3) Define and explain what your pop culture artifact is in your own words
4) Explain how the pop cultural piece has impacted your life, experiences, or worldview
5) Attempt to situate the pop culture artifact in a larger context. What has its role been in larger society (if any)? What impact has it had on the world outside of just yourself?
6) Conclusion (1 paragraph)
Format: 2-3 Pages, 12 point, Times New Roman, double spaced, 1-inch margins

The Forrest Community Center (FCC) is a community organization that serves a very diverse population, including people from all types of denominations, generations, ethnicities, racial identities, and so on. This tremendous diversity creates challenges for the staff who wish to support everyone yet still respect those who follow traditional religious doctrines. The organization’s leaders do not want to exclude or alienate anyone.
Sometimes the FCC hosts fundraisers that celebrate LGBTQIA issues and identity. Other times the FCC has honored the accomplishments of women who have taken leadership roles typically reserved for men in their respective religions. Some believe the FCC’s leadership has preferred to hire those who actively practice their religion versus those who identify as non-religious, which could amount to religious discrimination.
How might your chosen religion respond to the FCC’s approach toward gender inclusion? Given what you know about gender in your chosen religion, do you think this religion would welcome having a woman leader?
