Assessing Offenders: A Comparison of Two Instruments

To determine what factors are most likely to have an impact on an offender or a justice-affected person, a human service professional needs to conduct a comprehensive assessment. Like last week’s assignment, this week you will explore additional assessment tools that have been created. Not only do you want to know what assessment tools are available to you, but you want to be able to determine which one is going to provide you with the data you need. In this assignment, explore how these assessments can provide you with different types of information and what you can do with that information.
Imagine you have been asked to write a review of two assessment tools used with offenders for a newsletter.

Select 2 of the instrumentals profiled in the index. ( ls/cmi- Level of Service Case Management Invetory & Level of Service Inventory-Revised (LSI-R)
Research the 2 instruments using course readings and 2 additional articles. Consider the following questions for your research:
Where would you use the instruments (e.g., probation, prison, jail, diverse program)?
How would you use them?
Why would you use them?
What are specific examples of how the instruments would be used?
Write a 800-word article for the newsletter that compares the 2 instruments and in which you:
Describe each tool.
Explain how each tool works.
Determine which tool you feel is the better instrument.
Justify your selection.
Include an example of how the instrument would improve the analysis of a client’s situation and provide assistance to the client.

The Effectiveness of Gender-Specific Probation Programs for Female Offenders

Describe one female offender probation practice, which interests you for this study.
Compare this practice to at least one other probation practice with respect to a different group of offenders (i.e. juveniles, substance abusers, etc.), which you found in your research.

Presidential Disaster Declaration
Should there be stricter guidelines concerning what events the president of the United States can declare disasters? Why or why not? What is the significance of an official disaster declaration, either by the president or a governor?
Research the last time the National Guard was activated and deployed any state to respond to a disaster. Describe the circumstances and the disaster. Analyze the National Guard’s response to the disaster. Are there any concerns with using a military organization to conduct operations domestically?

Implementing Evidence-Based Policy Reform to Address Overcrowding in the Criminal Justice System

Draft a strategy proposal designed to effect change in the criminal justice system. The focus of this report is on the process / strategy to effect policy change, but students are expected to establish that their recommended policy change is evidence-based. The CJ Reform Proposal should be approximately ten pages and it should:

Identify and explain one contemporary criminal justice issue where current policies / laws misalign with scholarly evidence and develop an evidence-based policy solution (30 percent of the grade). Specifically, the proposal should rely purely on peer-reviewed literature as evidence to show the reader that the proposed policy will be better than the current one.

The majority of your proposal should focus on how to best implement the proposed crime policy. Proposals shall provide an evidence-based policy reform strategy based on the Criminal Justice Policy Action Logic Model that would increase the likelihood of policy adoption

Topic: Laws against bulling and the lasting effects that it has on the victims
The paper should have in at least these sections without going over 5 pages of text
title page (does not count for page count)
Introduction to the problem – this section will show the reader the significance of your problem and should contain facts, figures and/or examples to show why this is an important problem worth investing in. This section should contain citations from different sources to make the problem credible.
Purpose of the Project – This section will describe what your program will do to solve a piece of the problem that you discussed above. This section should be concise and clear. This purpose will be the foundation for the rest of the proposal.
Objectives – This section will discuss the objectives of the program. For example, this program will reduce alligator bite injuries in FL by 20%. (2 or 3 program objectives is good ) This section will also discuss the objectives of the education itself, what you expect the participants of the education to come away with. For example, at the conclusion of the course participants will be able to visually identify an alligator. (3 or 4 of these would be good)
Target audience – Who are you aiming your education program at. Will it be all 6th graders in Fl, will it be adults of community organizations etc. Also explain why this is your target group and what you hope that they do with the information/training that you give them.
Outlined education plan with examples – this section you will give a description of what your education plan looks like. the education will begin with describing how to determine the presence of an alligator. the course will educate the student on what to do if they see an alligator such as …. This is also a good section to share your Kahoot questions as an example. The participants will be involved in engaged learning events such as using Kahoots where their knowledge of the subject will be reviewed through modern gaming techniques with questions such as …..
Budget – this is the technical aspect of the paper where you describe what you need to make this project work. All projects have a cost and someone has to pay it. try to be as complete here as possible. A wishy washy budget is often the no funding flag for organizations. they want to make sure their money is well spent. you can give a short description of the budget and then use a graph to show expenses and breakdowns if you prefer or you can write it out. Remember do not do what is easy for you but is easy for the reader. many projects are not funded because the reviewer can not easily find the important parts.
Conclusion – This is your final sales pitch for the money. Restate your highlights and why I should give you my money for it.
