Write an essay about The importance of ethics and social responsibility in organizational behavior
Conduct research on the Internet to find a product liability case decided in the last five years. You may research court websites, cases publicized in the news, law review articles, etc. Share with the class the basic facts of the case, the theories of liability (for example, breach of contract, intentional tort, negligence, strict liability, etc.), and results (if any).
First, share your thoughts about the case you found and your opinion of product liability overall.
Next, consider that you have invented a product, and have become successful in mass-producing the product. What would you do to alleviate potential product liability claims? Incorporate two key terms from this week’s readings in all CAPS
Imagine you are in an in-seat class on a cool, rainy evening, listening to the instructor’s lecture. Sensing that he is losing your interest, the instructor decides to enthrall you with what his baseball career could have been like… had he any talent!
He grabs a baseball and throws it over everyone’s heads through a window up on the third floor of the building. The ball hits a passerby, knocking him to the ground. The passerby now needs medical attention.
A fire department crew promptly responds. A rookie is driving the fire engine, and misjudges the distance needed to stop the truck. He crashes into the boiler room portion of the building, and, because of a design flaw in the boiler, an explosion erupts. The blast damages the building and causes injury to a few people nearby, including the poor victim of the baseball.
List and discuss the tort claims and defenses the instructor, the victim, and the fire truck driver may bring, even if you believe they may be unsuccessful.
Today’s borderless business environment can make communication complex. This is not only because you might be communicating with people from all over the globe, but also because we live in an increasingly diverse society. So even in a domestic job with no overseas interactions, cultural intelligence is important. Being culturally intelligent improves one’s ability to adapt to the challenges and needs of all our team members.
While thinking about all of the recommendations for running effective meetings and for developing cultural intelligence, identify two specific recommendations that you feel you would benefit most from by developing further. The recommendations should be one from each chapter assigned this week. Then explain why improving upon these recommendations would benefit you the most. Share one action you will take this week for each recommendation you identified.
Highlight the underlying assumptions for each of the principal marketing management philosophies
Review the below video
Think back to an experience you had working with a team member from a culture that is different from your own when you address the prompts below.
o Should a project manager pat team members on the back in a gesture of appreciation for a great job done, or is it best to avoid this gesture?
o Describe a time you have experienced cultural differences and how you addressed them in a team environment?
o In your opinion, should project managers tailor their approach/strategy to the culture of each team member, or should the team members conform themselves to a standard approach?
Scenario
Imagine that you are an organizational consultant for the SNHU Pet Supply Company. The director of retail operations has asked you to evaluate
the reason for some of the team’s drop in productivity and make recommendations for their improvement. Further conversations with the team
members and managers reveal a conflict in the way productivity and efficiency is being measured and handled.
The team members say that their managers micromanage them. Each week, the managers send out a task list for the team and expect them to fill
out detailed timesheets every day to cross-reference the task list. Any deviations from the list must be explained in a separate email. Moreover,
some team members feel their skill sets are not being used correctly, and that they would be better suited to do tasks that are not being assigned to
them. This has led to some resentment within the team, not to mention high levels of stress to meet the managers’ demands.
The managers maintain that they have just been following the process that’s been set out for years in the company. The many unresolved issues
are taking a toll on the team’s productivity and efficiency, which then feeds back into the conflict, creating a vicious circle.
Prompt
Write a brief report to the director of retail operations that explains the management skills and practices you feel will improve team productivity
and efficiency, using the module reading to support your recommendations.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
Overview: Provide a brief overview of the problem you have been asked to resolve, making sure to note specific areas of conflict
between management approaches and employee feedback based on the provided scenario.
Management Approaches: Describe the general functions of management as well as the purpose and benefits of using established
management skills and practices, making sure to use course resources to support your explanation.
Recommendations: Recommend a new management approach, consisting of a blend of management skills and practices, that you
believe will help improve the team’s productivity and efficiency. Explain why you believe these approaches will be effective, and make
sure to use course resources to support your recommendations.
Provide advantages and disadvantages of targeting market strategies listed below:
a) Undifferentiated targeting
b) Concentrated targeting
c) Multi-segment targeting
Scenario: The performance of one of your top employees has recently begun to slip. You had a conversation with the employee to address it, and there was some improvement for a while, but performance slipped again. You do not want to terminate this employee because you know the value of their work, and you trust and respect them. However, other team members are starting to notice and are expressing their frustrations.
You schedule a follow-up meeting with the employee.
Part One: Leveraging what you have learned from the course materials for this week, briefly outline your goals for the meeting and explain your strategy for achieving these goals. In your response, address the following questions:
• What will you do to make your objectives clear and candid during the conversation?
• How will you manage your emotion during the conversation while still maintaining empathy and trust with the employee?
• What techniques will you employ to strengthen your working relationship with this employee, and why would you choose these techniques?
• How will you work with the employee to develop an agreed-upon performance improvement plan?
Part Two: Write a dialogue illustrating the conversation between you and this employee that demonstrates your use of the strategies you have chosen. Ensure your dialog aligns with your strategies and objectives for the meeting.
For your discussion posts, please review, integrate, and cite course materials to illustrate your application of sound business communication practices, support for your position(s), and demonstration of thought leadership.
