As the Vice President of Rochester Preferred Travel, you are upset with Premier Promos.

Premier is a catalog company that provides imprinted promotional products for companies. Your travel service was looking for something special to offer in promoting its cruise ship travel packages. Premier offered free samples of its promotional merchandise, under its “No Surprise” policy.

You asked yourself, “What can we lose?” and on January 11, you placed a telephone order for a number of samples. These included:

An insulated lunch sack
A portable power strip in a zippered case
A square-ended barrel bag with fanny pack
A deluxe canvas attaché case
Two colors of garment-dyed sweatshirts
All items were supposed to be free. But it seemed odd to you when they asked for your company’s credit card number. This was because Premier had promised to bill you only if you decided to keep these sample items.

When the items arrived, you were not pleased. You returned them all on January 21. You have a postal receipt showing the return. However, your February credit card statement showed a charge of $258.20 for the sample items. You called Premier in February and spoke to Virginia, who assured you that a credit would be made on your next statement. However, your March statement showed no credit. You called again and received a similar promise. It’s now April and no credit has been made. You realize that this situation is now too complicated for another telephone call, and you decide to write and demand action.

Nineteenth-century British or Canadian object

Select one nineteenth-century British or Canadian object, building or literary work that
evokes neo-medievalism and discuss the cultural processes that influenced its creation,
reception, use and appearance (if applicable). This assignment is informed by exhibition
catalogues which, ideally, unite description and contextualization. Your object’s description
should comprise approximately one-quarter of the assignment’s word length. The
remainder of the word length should be devoted to the more substantive issues of cultural
context, lasting influence, etc. Your assignment must include the following:
1) Describe the “object” using clear, precise terminology. Your description should
include (if applicable) dimensions, material, method of manufacture and
decoration. Augment this description with a good-quality, referenced, image of
your subject. If you are discussing a literary work, identify its genre, its
publication details and its printed format.
(For example, was it published as a monograph? Was it a “triple-decker”? Was it
serialized? Was its cover and/or binding decorated? Were images included in the
text? If you discuss decoration or illustrations vis à vis a literary work, you must
include a good-quality, referenced, image of that visual content.)
2) How does your subject reflect its cultural context? For example, does it preserve
evidence of evolution in philosophical thought? Does it celebrate an
idealized/fictionalized past? Does it connote a cultural identity? Consider your
subject carefully and determine how it can be “read” as a cultural artifact.
3) Why is your “object” important today? Does it have a lasting influence on
contemporary societies that form the British diaspora? What are the implications
of such “lasting influence” in that diaspora?

Constituents contained in plasma and their concentrations

Scenario/Summary

Betty was an active 24 year-old with a good job at the local University. She helped students navigate the complexities of the FAFSA application process to access monies for their educations. Betty loved her job and attended all of the graduation ceremonies as a final send-off of the students to their dream lives.

In September, Betty started to feel tired and had a low-grade fever. She also experienced some nausea and stomach pain. Worried that she was developing a stomach virus, she stayed at home that weekend and tried to get as much rest as possible. She turned to soft foods to decrease the stomach distress. By Monday, she was feeling a little better and hoped she was on the mend.

However, later in the week, her joints started hurting and her leg muscles were sore. She couldn’t think of anything she had done differently that would account for the muscle soreness and joint pains. She chalked that up to sleeping wrong.

A few months later, the fatigue and weakness returned and she noticed that her hair was breaking easily and thinning, and that she was developing swelling in her legs and face. She also had dry skin and craved eggs and cottage cheese. Betty couldn’t get enough of these two foods. Fearing that something serious may be wrong, Betty scheduled an appointment with her physician.

Her physician ran a battery of tests to determine that Betty was suffering from a hepatitis C virus and was experiencing hypoproteinemia. In particular, her albumin levels were low.

Based on what you’ve learned about blood flow, the liver’s role in production of proteins, and pressure at the capillaries, address the following questions.

Deliverables

Answer the following questions and save your responses in a Microsoft Word document. Provide a scholarly resource to support your answers.

1. Describe all the constituents contained in plasma and their concentrations.

2. Explain the liver’s role in production of proteins.

3. Why would albumin be important in regulating pressure at the capillaries?

4. Explain the process of fluid movement at both the arterial and venous side of the capillary.

5. What can Betty do to improve her situation?
