Nutrition

Part 5 of your Diet Project is a continuation of the analysis of your diet and health. In Part 5, we will be evaluating our overall health risk as it relates to nutrition, as well as thinking about ways we can improve our health through nutrition.

Directions: Fill in the tables and answer the questions based on the data from your Cronometer reports. You will need to refer to both the Trends and Servings reports that you submitted for Diet Project Part 1. Type in a different color text.
Note: The Trends report will show you your average intake for each nutrient, so you DO NOT have to calculate any averages!
Please answer the questions based on the information from your Cronometer reports!
• If a question does not apply to your situation, make sure to say something about it, such as “I’m not an athlete, so this doesn’t apply to me.” That way, I know you looked at the question. Don’t just skip the question!
• I will be grading Part 2 using your Cronometer reports submitted for Part 1. If I see a food on Part 2 that wasn’t recorded on Part 1, or if there is a food I saw from Part 1 that should be on Part 2, you will lose points.

Answer the questions based on what you are learning in this course!
• You are required to explain your answers in detail, using your reports and knowledge about nutrition to support your answer.
• Unacceptable responses: “it’s junk/fast/processed food”, “it’s full of nutrients, “it’s healthier”, “it’s better”, “I think my diet is healthy”, “I don’t like my diet”, or “my diet is horrible.” These will NOT earn you credit if you don’t explain why.

My Plate and Dietary Guidelines
– refer to “Servings” report
1. MyPlate is divided into 5 different food groups. Name a few foods you recorded in Part 1 (at least 3 per food group if applicable) that contributed to each food group. (5 points)

8. Discuss the health benefits and nutritional consequences of your strengths and weaknesses. How are your benefits helping your health? How are your weakness affecting your health? Discuss body function, specific potential diseases, specific nutrients you’re getting/not getting, etc…(4 points)

Benefit of your strengths:

Consequences of your weakness:

9. Based on what you have learned about your diet in this project, identify ONE nutrition-related disease that you believe you’d be most likely to develop and explain why (4 points).

10. Based on what you have learned about your diet and lifestyle habits in this project, are there any changes you want to make? If so, explain the following: (9 points)
a. WHAT specifically do you want to do differently?
(do not just say “eat healthier “or “stop eating junk food.” Explain specifically what you want to do – what foods or nutrients to add, remove, change, etc…)

b. HOW would you do it
(how would you incorporate the changes listed above into your daily life?)

c. HOW would you stay motivated to make these changes?
(What can you do to make sure you stay on track?)

Amazing capability to learn language

Humans, especially children, have an amazing capability to learn language. Within the first year of life, children will have learned many of the necessary concepts to have functional language, although it will still take years to develop fully. But are humans unique in their ability to acquire language?

As you know, as a graduate student I was chosen to work with Dr. Roger Fouts at the Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute (CHCI), a sanctuary for chimpanzees used in ape language research and home to world renowned Washoe, the first nonhuman to acquire a human language. Four of the chimpanzees, Washoe, Moja, Tatu and Dar were immersed in American Sign Language (ASL), and they learned to communicate by using signs in their daily interactions. Loulis, Washoe’s adopted son was not cross-fostered. He acquired his signs from Washoe and the three other chimpanzees. He was the first non-human to learn a human language from other non-humans. Thus, Loulis observed the other chimpanzees using the signs of ASL around him, like CHASE and TICKLE during play interactions. Washoe would even mold his hand into signs like MORE for new food.

Multidimensional Care For Sarah

Directions
Sarah is a 69-year old female that presented to the emergency department with shortness of breath. Her past medical history includes heart failure and COPD. Her pulse oximetry on room air is 82%. You notify the provider, and he orders oxygen at 2 L via nasal cannula NC. Sarah’s chest x-ray reveals bilateral pneumonia. Her arterial blood gas result are below:

pH: 7.30

PaCO2: 58 mm Hg

PaO2: 78 mm Hg

HCO3: 26 mEq/L

Sarah is admitted to a general medical floor. You are the nurse assigned to Sarah.

What potential problems can occur based on the above findings?
How would you provide multidimensional care for Sarah?
Describe the roles of other departments in Sarah’s treatment plan.

Disorders of the endocrine system

Disorders of the endocrine system affect many individuals. Providing multidimensional patient care can be challenging for patients experiencing these disorders. Ensuring the plan of care meets the patient and family needs is important in order to increase adherence to proper medical treatment following discharge.

What does it mean to provide a multidimensional approach? Provide at least three examples of how the care team can meet the patient and the family’s needs? List at least three care team members and how are they involved in providing multidimensional care?

Professionalism and the setting of goals in healthcare administration

We are looking at professionalism and the setting of goals in healthcare administration in this unit. For this discussion, consider the following healthcare organizations, and address what you believe the goals of a healthcare administrator should be for each of the four types of healthcare organizations listed. Describe the similarities and/or differences that you see in each role: (1) free-standing public health clinic, (2) school of medicine health clinic, (3) religious hospital, and (4) community hospital.

Nursing interventions for clients with lower gastrointestinal disorders.

Competency
Select appropriate nursing interventions for clients with lower gastrointestinal disorders.

Scenario
Patient and family education is important in increasing adherence. To provide education to patient and families, you are going to create a poster about a gastrointestinal disorder that will be displayed in a physician’s office.

Instructions
Please be sure to include the following in your poster design.

Overview of the disorder
Causes of the disorder
Diagnostic tests to diagnosis the disorder
Assessment findings
Multidimensional nursing care interventions for the disorder

The Project Information

Madrid FC own land in the metropolitan area of Madrid. They would like to build a sports complex which would include state-of the art training facilities for elite
athletes. Your consultancy office with the help of architects and sports consultant have drawn up three different projects) (i) 10 hectare site with small capacity
for athletes (ii) 20 Ha site and moderate level of capacity; (iii) a high-level complex at 30 Ha.
The success of the project depends upon several factors. Madrid FC want to build make the largest profit. There is uncertainty concerning the demand for the three
projects. The decision is to select the optimum project depends on following three decision alternatives:
Decision 1: a small sports complex at 10 Ha
Decision 2: a medium complex at 20 Ha
Decision 3: a large complex at 30 Ha
Some other information investigated:
Decision 1 would be in the centre of town where property and land are expensive but would have some kudos as it is close to the football ground.
Decision 2 is close to the centre but transport would be needed to get to it.
Decision 3 is out of town with lots of opportunity for expansion.
A study was conducted to get some prior knowledge for the probability of each alternative occurring at 2 different demand level. The two directions investigated were
high demand and low demand and based on various financial metrics and a probability assigned to these variables (see table 1 below).
Thus, management must first select a decision alternative (complex size), then other states of nature will be investigated e.g. (demand for the sports facility).
Given the three decision alternatives and the two states of nature, which sports complex should Madrid FC advance?
To answer this question, Madrid FC will need to know the consequence associated with each decision alternative and each state of nature.
Table 1: Payoff for Madrid FC Sports Complex (payoff in Euros million)
Low Demand High Demand
Size Decision S1 (p=0.4) S2 (p=0.6)
Small D1 3000 3200
Medium D2 2500 2800
Large D3 2000 2100
Table 2: A survey was completed with 100 people that showed strong interest in signing up to train at the complex. A contingency table of the data is shown below
Trains more than 3
times a week
Trains less than 3
times a month TOTAL
Football fan 20 40 60
Non-football
fan 20 20 40
TOTAL 40 60 100
Questions:
1) Based on the information in the case, what are Madrid FCs key drivers and objectives in this decision- making process?
2) Are there any other objectives that you think they should consider?
3) Identify the basic elements governing Madrid FCs decision-making (values, decisions, uncertain events, consequences, etc) ?
4) Develop a decision tree for this decision-making process.
5) What roles do decision trees and influence diagrams play in helping to understand and communicate the structure of your decisions in this project?
6) Which decision would you recommend based on your investigations. Justify your recommendations?
7) Given the information in the contingency table, what is the significance of this data and which marketing solutions might be applicable for Madrid FC?
8) Develop arguments on how decision-making could be improved in a project of this nature?

Discrimination is discussed as a primarily individual phenomenon

Create a public information product of your choice that is based on data related to a diversity issue. Your product should be at least 1,500 written words, or 10-15-minutes in length if spoken.
Introduction
Often, discrimination is discussed as a primarily individual phenomenon—one-on-one actions in which one person discriminates against another. But as you have learned through your studies and research, some discrimination occurs at the institutional level, despite laws and policies that have been created to reduce or eliminate structural racism.

In this assessment, you examine how different experiences for minority groups may reflect a dominant culture that practices systemic discrimination in treatment or access to valued resources. You will examine the extent to which institutional discrimination occurs within a specific institution, such as the criminal justice system or the health care system. A key part of this assessment is incorporating data to support your analysis, something that is also integral to the work that sociologists do. You will also reflect upon and discuss feasible strategies for addressing the institutional inequality uncovered during your research.

Demonstration of Proficiency
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:

Competency 1: Describe theoretical ideas of power in relation to policy.
Create a public information piece that conveys a central tenet regarding institutional inequality.
Competency 3: Analyze the effects of social policy using aggregated data.
Analyze data to make valid sociological inferences.
Competency 4: Analyze how laws are applied or created based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, and social class.
Describe factors contributing to racial and ethnic disparities within the criminal justice system.
Assess the impact that institutional discrimination within the justice system has had on minorities and minority communities.
Explain ways in which public policies are linked to racial and ethnic disparities within the criminal justice system.
Describe policy strategies for reducing institutional discrimination.
Competency 6: Communicate effectively.
Write coherently to support a central idea in appropriate format and with few errors of grammar, usage, and mechanics.
