Discussion #1 T.B
A current biomedical ethics issue in healthcare today that concerns me is malpractice and negligence. I have just witnessed malpractice and negligence, in my opinion but it would take the decision of the law to determine justice. This individual I know has cerebral palsy and suffers from seizures throughout the day whereas physicians found it best to keep her on medication that causes drowsiness, in which I do understand the nature of why, but she still has a life to live. She can’t walk for long periods of time due to the uncontrollable and unexpected seizures. To make a long story short, she is not deprived of anything and still lives a decent life where she functions independently but is watched closely. She had an accident running her bath water where she fell in hot water while having a seizure. She was rushed to the hospital and was released hours later. Her skin was burned 60% of body. The audacity of the hospital to send a burn victim home was beyond an outrage. 72 hours later she was rushed back to the hospital due to extreme pain and soon after airlifted to another hospital, with a sedative, and was immediately taken to the burn unit which should have taken place on day 1. She had an awesome team who stood by her daily and hourly and made sure that she received the proper care. She is now at home (60 days home) and is recovering wonderfully. No skin graft was needed, her skin was observed healing miraculously just 24 hours before the skin graft procedure. Overall, she is doing amazing. But the hospital should have used better judgement and made the call when caring for a burn victim and is disabled. Due to the nature of the care and the patient, the only information I know is that legal advice has been sought and that the patient allegedly may have a lawsuit. I feel this biomedical ethics issue in particular needs to be re-evaluated and looked into and to make sure this type of care does not happen again to anyone. There was no way the staff at that hospital would allow a burned victim, with 60% of the body burned, to be released. How?! I will never understand it.
Discussion #2 S.B.
One of the biggest legal and ethical issues in health is patient confidentiality which is why fifteen percent of survey respondents noted that doctor-patient confidentiality is their top priority issue in practicing medicine. The high rate in disability issues. Consent, vulnerability, or coercion. Mental health illnesses, treatments, and care for patients, ethical treatments research subjects in clinical trials. Ethical issues that arise from modern bio-technologies include the availability and use of privileged information, potential for ecological harm, access to new drugs and treatments, and the idea of interfering with nature. The bio-medical ethic issue that seems to be misused is euthanasia. According to BBC; Euthanasia is the termination of a very sick persons life in order to relieve them of their suffering. The main focus in general ethical issues brings authorship, peer review, duplicate or repetitive publication, and conflict of interest. This carries an increased temptation to deviate from the ethical norm. These things gives discipline of ethics dealing with moral problems that may arise in the practice of medicine and the pursuit of bio-medical research.

Patient’s symptoms, medical history, and drugs

• Reflect on the patient’s symptoms, medical history, and drugs currently prescribed.
• Think about a possible diagnosis for the patient. Consider whether the patient has a disorder related to the gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary system or whether the symptoms are the result of a disorder from another system or other factors, such as pregnancy, drugs, or a psychological disorder.
• Consider an appropriate drug therapy plan based on the patient’s history, diagnosis, and drugs currently prescribed.

Write a 1-page paper that addresses the following:
• Explain your diagnosis for the patient, including your rationale for the diagnosis.
• Describe an appropriate drug therapy plan based on the patient’s history, diagnosis, and drugs currently prescribed.
• Justify why you would recommend this drug therapy plan for this patient. Be specific and provide examples.
