Advertising

How does advertising work? You might think that advertising does not work on you but if you think about it, you can probably come up with at least one product you tried because of advertising, or one store you checked out. If advertising did not work, there would not be advertisements everywhere and companies would not invest so heavily in advertising. Advertisers use a number of techniques to persuade such as celebrity endorsements or claims of limited supply. There is a current product being advertised on TV where you are told to call in the morning or the evening based on the first letter of your last name in an effort to establish the exclusivity of the product. Write about one current advertisement and indicate at least three techniques being used in the ad to promote the product. To earn full credit for this activity, you must also comment on another post indicating how effective you think the ad described is.

be something like tossing a ball into a basket on the floor, or tying and untying a pair of shoes or winding an unwound fishing rod or inserting pegs into a peg board. Time each individual working alone to complete the task or for how long to do a certain number of repetitions.
Then compare this with the time taken when the individuals compete against each other. Ideally do this for a few pairs and see whether there is a social facilitation effect. Share your findings on the Discussion Forum.

PART A
Throughout the online course material there are Learning Activities. Choose from those marked “(Discussion Forum),” follow the specific instructions provided, and post in the appropriate forum.
Each posting should be approximately 200 words. Relate your answer to the course content. Answers which have no reference to topics covered in the module will not receive marks.

PART B
Response
Read your classmates’ postings on the same topic as you wrote and respond to one of them within one week of the initial posting deadline. Your response should be approximately 100 words. Remember that students come from all walks of life and a wide range of backgrounds so write in a respectful manner and be sure that your responses are supportive and non-judgmental even when you are questioning or challenging a point. Also provide evidence if you have a different perspective or experience.

GIVE RESPONSE ON BELOW- BY Alyssa Cayen

The advertisement that I have chosen to write about is a Nike advertisement that I have seen many times on television. I simply chose this advertisement because there are multiple messages to be found within this ad. Additionally, this advertisement uses many techniques that have made it effective for selling their products.
In the ad, the first two techniques that can be perceived would be credibility and likeability. Nike is a very popular brand that is recognized by thousands around the world. In this ad, we can see that only women are to be found in the ad. In addition, several professional soccer players from Europe are featured in the ad as well. Thus, this ad focuses on female empowerment in athletics and sports. This ad shows and inspires young girls that they can also be great soccer players like the athletes they look up to. Hence, the girls who look up to their favourite athlete in the ad will want to dress like them for their sports and want to purchase Nike products. Therefore, this aspect of the advertisement certainly brings credibility to this popular brand.
Furthermore, another technique that is evident throughout this ad are the positive emotions. The cinematography such as vibrant colours and upbeat music in this advertisement displayed on social media or on television can instantly captivate an individual’s attention. Depending on the situation, a success experience, breathtaking scenery, and pleasant music can lull us into a positive emotional state ripe for persuasion (Kassin et al., 2013, pg. 211). Not to mention that everyone appears to be enjoying themselves playing soccer and promoting Nike’s products all throughout the advertisement. All of these details can contribute to having positive emotions while watching the add and can lead to the viewers purchasing Nike products.

Science and human behavior. New York: The Macmillan Company.

Chapter 1:
1. The application of science has contributed to problems that would lead some to wish it (science) away. In Skinner’s view, is this possible? Why or why not?
2. Skinner asserts that science, and the common view of science, has been tarnished. Explain his evidence for saying this.
3. Skinner is making the point that science can produce good things, but that humans have used science in nefarious ways. He says that now we should apply science to the study of human behavior. Why?
4. What will be the benefit of studying human behavior from a scientific point of view?
5. What are the essential components of science that are described by Skinner (there are two of them)?
6. Describe why Skinner believes that some people will resist the use of science to describe and predict human behavior.
7. In what way is the notion of free will in conflict with a scientific approach to human behavior? What human tendencies compete with a full acceptance of determinism?
8. Skinner contrasts the social sciences and the natural sciences and suggests that one of these more certainly assumes that events occur lawfully. Which one?
9. How does Skinner describe the current (at that time) practice of studying and learning about human behavior?
10. What is the traditional view of Western culture and how does that support or stand in opposition to a scientific study of human behavior?

Chapter 2:
1. Skinner writes that the “… characteristics of science are not restricted to any particular subject matter.” What is he saying here?
2. What does Skinner mean when he says that the products of science are not the same thing as science itself?
3. There seem to be three characteristics of science described by Skinner (intellectual honesty, skepticism, and search for order). Describe or define each, and give an example in your own words, and explain why each is important to science.
4. One of the characteristics of science is a rejection of authority and dealing with facts. Skinner wrote, “…the facts must stand and the expectations fall.” Why is this so important?
5. “…The value of remaining without an answer…” is related to the belief in skepticism– we do not jump to conclusions, we doubt findings that are based on dubious data, etc. What would you suspect the advantage of this characteristic, or trait, is?
6. Skinner talks about ‘control” of phenomena. What does he mean by this, and why is that a desired scientific outcome?
7. Does Skinner believe that we (before the writing of this book and the development of radical behaviorism and a natural science approach towards behavior) have developed theories and assumptions about why we do what we do that are based on careful data and analysis? Why or why not?
8. The passage on page 15 about a single behavioral event, biographies, and novels, are all examples of the first stage of science, which is “observation.” What does Skinner say about the importance of observation?
9. The second level of science is “prediction,” which Skinner discusses (not using that word) in the section about “uniformity.” He mentions “prediction” on page 16. What is the advantages of, or the importance of, prediction?
10. What does Skinner mean when he says that “behavior” is the focus of a scientific study, rather than something else? What is that something else? (14-16)

Cultural and social environment

Anytown organization’s overall approach to planning

create the direction, control, and coordination sections of your EOP. This section of the EOP describes the framework for your selected organization’s direction, control, and coordination activities. It will identify who (likely team or individuals) has tactical and operational control of response assets. Additionally, this Direction, Control, and Coordination section will explain the overall Anytown jurisdictional agency coordination systems to support your emergency management efforts, while allowing your organization to retain its own authorities.
Compile the Direction, Control, and Coordination section of the EOP with the following components:
Information Collection, Analysis, and Dissemination (500-750 words)
Describe the critical or essential information common to all operations identified during the planning process. Identify the type of information needed, the source of the information, who uses the information, how the information is shared, the format for providing the information, and any specific times the information is needed. Detail any relevant Anytown prevention and protection assets that must develop the Information Collection, Analysis, and Dissemination section in close cooperation with your selected organization/location. The contents of this section can be provided in a tabular or essay format.
Administration, Finance, and Logistics (300-500 words)
Create general support requirements and the availability of services and chains for various emergencies and your organization’s policies for managing resources. As the lead planner, design a figurative work section(s) as you think it would work for best results and outcomes in the real world. Use real-life organizations or work experiences for further reference.
Plan Development and Maintenance
Explain your Anytown organization’s overall approach to planning and the assignment of plan development and maintenance responsibilities. This section should:
1. Describe the planning process, participants in that process, and how development and revision of different “levels” of the EOP (basic plan, annexes, and SOPs/SOGs) are coordinated during the preparedness phase.
2. Assign responsibility for the overall planning and coordination to a specific position(s).
3. Provide for a regular cycle of training, evaluating, reviewing, and updating of the EOP (250-300 words).
