The Second Client

Compose a succinct description of a second client, different in basic identity from your first client. This second client could be a composite of many people you have known. You might consider a superhero or famous movie character or even someone from Shakespeare’s plays. Decide on their age, as a child (5-11 yr), or an adolescent (12-17 yr), or young adult (18 – 30), or midlife (30- 50), or a senior, past 50.

Give them a first name, age, aspects of identity (e.g. gender, ethnicity, culture, socioeconomic, family situation, other relevant identity.
State a different presenting problem – why are they seeing you as a counseling psychologist? What are some of their relevant symptoms? Was there a precipitating event?
What are their treatment goals?
Task #2 Application

What theory will you use as a lens to understand and respond to the client? Select a theory you did not use with the client in Reflection #1. Consider humanistic, existential, cognitive, family systems or a developmental theory.

What are two key terms from this theory that will help you understand the client? Carefully define the two terms and explain how these ideas will help the client.

What are two expressive therapies you might use with this client? Why these two?

Explain three specific therapy skills/attitudes that you will need to be a competent therapist with this client.

Case Study: Strengthening Curricular Programs

Making decisions that meet the needs of all stakeholders is a complex endeavor. Effective leaders must remember to place the needs of students first, which sometimes means that compromises for other stakeholders will be required.

The goal for this assignment is to critically consider the logistics of appeasing different stakeholders and doing what is best for students. In this topic’s case study, it is important to stay focused on the curriculum and academic needs of the students. Be careful not to let the parent’s action of contacting the district office sway you from focusing attention on the curriculum aspect.

As a best practice, showing movies in class is no longer a viable option and practical form of instruction. Consider how you will interact with the classroom teacher regarding this concern. Moreover, consider how you plan to address this parent’s concern regarding changing the curriculum. Finally, if you decide to change the curriculum, are you opening up the possibility of other parents complaining about other curriculum concerns? Would the curriculum be worthy of a committee’s support?

Read the “Strengthening Curricular Programs” case study to inform the assignment.

Part 1: Case Analysis

In 250-500 words, respond to the case study by addressing the following:

Brief summary of the case
Issues to be resolved
Stakeholders involved in the issues
One or two existing laws or court rulings that relate to the issues
District policies that relate to the issues
Possible solutions to the issues
Solutions chosen to resolve the issues
Action steps (2-5) for implementing each solution, including a timeline for each step
Potential moral and legal consequences of each solution
Part 2: Rationale

Support the case analysis with a 250-500 word rationale explaining the solutions you chose and how each solution:

Sustains an inclusive school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning.
Addresses difficult issues related to meeting students’ needs while promoting a culture of collaboration, trust, learning, and high expectations.
Evaluates potential moral and legal consequences to make difficult decisions with integrity and fairness.
Strives to build and sustain positive relationships between school representatives, students, families, and community partners, when their needs conflict.
Uses technological tools to collect and share professional artifacts that demonstrate aspects of school leadership (ethical personal conduct, positive relationships with others, effective decision-making, stewardship of school resources, etc.).

Course of the early Baroque period

“How has the role of the orchestra evolved?”

Discuss the way in which the role of the orchestra changed over the course of the early Baroque period, the Classical period, and the Romantic period. Policy & Advocacy For Pop

Tell us about a healthcare program, within your practice. What are the costs and projected outcomes of this program?
Who is your target population?
What is the role of the nurse in providing input for the design of this healthcare program? Can you provide examples?
What is your role as an advocate for your target population for this healthcare program? Do you have input into design decisions? How else do you impact design?
What is the role of the nurse in healthcare program implementation? How does this role vary between the design and implementation of healthcare programs? Can you provide examples?
Who are the members of a healthcare team that you believe are most needed to implement a program? Can you explain why?

SLEEP-WAKE DISORDERS

Sleep-wake disorders are defined by disturbances to a person’s sleep patterns. Sleep disruptions impact physical, mental, and emotional health. There are 10 groups of sleep-wake disorders described in the DSM-5 (American Psychiatric Association, 2013): insomnia, hypersomnolence disorder, narcolepsy, breathing-related sleep disorders, circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders, non-rapid eye movement sleep arousal disorders, nightmare disorder, rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder, restless legs syndrome, and substance/medication-induced sleep disorder.

The two key symptoms of a sleep disorder are fatigue and trouble focusing. People with mental health disorders like depression often have co-occurring sleep-wake disorders. It is critical that the clinician conduct an in-depth assessment when a client presents with a sleep-wake disorder, to include among other questions the following: nutrition, energy drink and other supplement/stimulant use, exercise, trauma history, technology use patterns, social and familial relationship health, and medical history with medication history

Consider the following scenario:

Alex, a male African American adolescent aged 14, has come to therapy because he is experiencing the symptoms of a sleep-wake disorder. His sleep-wake disorder is disrupting his school work, causing absenteeism from school, and negatively impacting his social engagements due to an increase in irritability and irrational thinking.

Write out a mini script showing what you, the counselor, might say to Alex

Respond to the following prompts using your mini script.

Provide four potential questions you might ask about Alex’s current sleep hygiene.
Explain the role of counseling alongside sedative hypnotics.
Explain the long-term consequences of a sleep-wake disorder.
Include an empathetic reflection to Alex

Psychometrics/scoring of the instrument

• Identify a scholarly, peer-reviewed article that addresses the use of the instrument.
• Discuss if the instrument is appropriate for diagnosing the condition it is designed to assess or if the developers of the instrument reported that the instrument is only part of a comprehensive assessment for the disorder.
• Describe whether the instrument can be used to measure patient response to therapy/treatment.
• Discuss the psychometrics/scoring of the instrument, including reliability and validity.
• Discuss any limitations associated with the use of the instrument.
