Posting 1 (300 words)
The first post is a direct response to the topic for the week, written in the Learner’s own words to represent a broad integration of relevant knowledge and understanding of assignment topic.
Posting 2 (300 words)

Develop six questions related to topics you saw in the video.
Answer those six questions. You will receive:
One point for every nontrivial, penetrating question;
Example “trivial” question: any fill-in-the blank question. The purpose of this exercise is to get you thinking critically about how chemistry works and how our concepts and theories tit into the macro world.
Ask questions that you don’t know the answers to yet, an aspect of chemistry with which you are currently unfamiliar.
One point for an thoughtful response to each of the questions you have posed for yourself.
How much do I write?

Your answers can be one or two short paragraph.
An offender was sentenced for two years for his third grand theft, and was moved to a state prison. During his second week, he was subjected to abuse and humiliation—hazing—from some other prisoners. This treatment continued unchecked, so he informed prison guards on two separate occasions of the abuse during his third week. The prison guards ignored his complaints because they did not want to upset the customary prison ritual of older prisoners scaring the new ones. The guards assumed that he would eventually fit into the prison culture.
However, his complaints led to him being beaten up by other prisoners. He pleaded with a prison guard to transfer him to another wing in the prison because of the continued abuse he was receiving. The authorities denied his request. He was ultimately raped and beaten repeatedly by several prisoners over a span of two weeks before being transferred. He also contracted two sexually transmitted diseases during the assaults. Subsequently, he brought a suit against the state for cruel and unusual punishment.
Conduct research about prisoners’ rights, conditions of the incarcerated, and prisoner abuse. Using Microsoft Word, submit an analysis of the case that answers the questions listed below.
Use case law to support your answers.
Explain the conditions under which prisoners have a right to sue the state based on violations of their constitutional rights. Specify the constitutional rights granted to prisoners. In which conditions are these rights denied? Describe the concept of “legitimate penological objectives” and how it figures into inmate lawsuits. Did the prison officials show “deliberate indifference” to the prisoner in this scenario under Wilson v. Seiter (1991)? If yes, can the prison guards be held responsible individually for the harm caused to the prisoner due to their indifference? Explain. If no, why? Could the victim win a lawsuit against the state by seeking protection under the Eighth Amendment? Use the case law of Farmer v. Brennan (1994) to frame your response.
In your opinion, how does the family influence juvenile delinquency? Provide an example from an outside source of when a child was delinquent because of the family’s influence. You may use newspaper articles in your response. Please be sure to provide a link to the source you use.
Develop a 5-10 year strategic plan for achieving specific health care quality and safety improvements, based on the
analysis you completed in Assessment 1. Use either an AI approach or your SWOT analysis and a chosen strategic
planning model.
Introduction
Evaluation of strategic choices is important. The methods for selecting strategic alternatives help leaders organize
significant issues to support decision making. However, it is important that the techniques do not make the decision.
Rather, leaders should use the techniques to reveal the inherent situation and to organize their thought processes.
This assessment provides you with an opportunity to evaluate and apply some of the techniques for successful
strategy development and implementation.
Note: You will use your care setting environmental analysis as the basis for developing your strategic plan in this
assessment.
Preparation
The feedback you received on your care setting environmental analysis has been positive. Consequently, you have
been asked to select one of the potential improvement projects you noted in your analysis and create a full, 5–10-
year strategic plan to achieve the desired quality and safety improvement outcomes. You will develop your strategic
plan, using either an AI approach (addressing the design stage), or by building on your SWOT analysis and applying
a strategic planning model of your choice.
How you structure your plan should be based on whether you are taking an appreciative inquiry approach or using a
specific strategic planning model. Regardless of the approach you choose, the requester of the plan has asked that
you address the key points outlined below in the strategic plan requirements. In addition, your plan should be 5–8
pages in length.
Note: As you revise your writing, check out the resources listed on the Writing Center’s Writing Support page.
As you prepare to complete this assessment, you may want to think about other related issues to deepen your
understanding or broaden your viewpoint. You are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them
with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of your professional community. Note that
these questions are for your own development and exploration and do not need to be completed or submitted as
part of your assessment.
Strategic planning models aid in setting goals, establishing time frames, and forging a path toward achieving those
goals. Consider the strategic planning models you are familiar with:
Which model would you choose to create goals and outcomes that could address the area of concern you
identified in your Assessment 1 SWOT analysis?
Why is this model the best choice among alternatives?
