Commander of the Patrol Division of a medium-sized metropolitan city.

You are the Commander of the Patrol Division of a medium-sized metropolitan city. You have 33 patrols out on the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift. It is by far the busiest shift for drunk driving, burglaries, domestic calls, and ATM robberies. The esprit de corps is very high. Lately, you have notice that one of the busiest sector units is dropping off in productivity. You ask around and find out that the partners in that car are a veteran officer, a married man, and a single young female rookie.

The rumor among the rest of the unit is that they are more than just professional partners. Last week, the chief called you into his office and asked about the drop in activity for the club sector of the city, where the patrol unit of concern is working. He got you to admit that there may be an unconfirmed problem. The chief told you that he wanted to know the complete situation and that you were to formulate a plan for dealing with the male/female patrol situation and then to come up with ideas to keep this pattern from emerging again in the future. The department currently has no policies about off-duty relationships of partners.

In a report to the chief of police, you will cite the findings of your investigation of the patrol partners concerned. You will provide at least 2 remedies for the situation so that it is discontinued. You will consider the lack of a fraternization policy in the department and suggest the minimum requirements of items that should be in a new policy for the department. You will include and indicate the types of discipline that should be applied to persons violating the new policy in the future.

Assignment Guidelines

Address the following in 2 pages:
How can the behavior on the part of the opposite-gender police partners affect the culture of the patrol unit? Explain.
What dangers could arise in an intimate relationship between partners as it pertains to the daily operations of patrol? Explain.
How can these dangers act as triggers of stress? Be specific.
Articulate at least 3 appropriate policy measures that should be in effect to help alleviate this type of situation.
Fully justify your policy measures with regard to the survival of a traumatic event.
What possible potential stressors could become present if the affair of the two officers reached the public? Explain.

Essential learning strategy in business classes

Case studies are an essential learning strategy in business classes as they provide an opportunity for you to critically analyze events that have taken place in real-life businesses. This develops your critical thinking and research skills as you research the competition and industry in which your business resides in order to formulate a recommendation for the challenges faced by the company.

For this unit, review the Marketing Spotlight: LEGO case study in Chapter 5 of your textbook. This assignment will be comprised of two parts; one part will ask you to respond to questions, and the other will require you to complete a case analysis.

Part 1
Evaluate this case and respond to each of the following questions using both theory and practical managerial thinking.

How does LEGO manage to constantly reinvent its business?
What role did marketing research play in LEGO’s market success?
What differentiates LEGO from its competitors? Is LEGO’s competitive advantage sustainable?
Review any potential ethical implications with LEGO. How are they aligning with good ethical practices?
Your Part 1 response must be at least two pages in length. Follow APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. Note that you will submit Part 1 and Part 2 in one document.

Part 2
Complete a case analysis of LEGO. This requires that you conduct research on LEGO beyond the case study material in the textbook. In the case analysis, you will look at the situational analysis, problem, and alternatives, and you will provide a recommendation. Refer to the instructions below as you construct your analysis.

Situational Analysis

Discuss the external environment through the compilation of a PEST (political, economic, sociocultural, and technology) analysis.
Discuss the internal and external environment through the compilation of a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis.
Problem

Identify at least one organizational problem that LEGO is currently having or one that you project it will have in the future. Base this on your research and critical thinking.
Alternatives

Compile three or four potential marketing-related solutions to the problem above. Remember that these are potential alternatives; you will not select all of the alternatives to solve the problem.
Recommendation (Marketing Strategy)

Select one or two of the alternatives above to solve the problem that you identified in this case analysis.
Discuss your rationale for choosing these and not the others. Include supporting research that will increase the depth of your analysis.

Stress and Quality of Life

Normative and non-normative events help us understand how change and stress
may impact our quality of life. Using the South University Library, locate 2 scholarly
journal articles written in the last 5-6 years on how change and/or stress can
impact a person’s life. Look especially for how sudden, unanticipated (nonnormative events) events can impact a person’s quality of life.
• Write a summary.
• Describe the main points of the article and how they relate to the week’s
course and text readings.
